Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Big Three

I wouldn't call myself a gaming know-it-all. I just enjoy playing video games. I grew up playing Nintendo and now on occasion I play an XB360 or PS3 game. When it comes to Nintendo, everyone has at least HEARD of their big three (IMO) - Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. So it makes me wonder what are the "Mario, Zelda, and Metroid" for Microsoft and/or Sony?

Could someone enlighten me?

Thanks.

Around the Network

Microsoft- Halo, Gears of War, and Viva Pinata (not sales wise, but quality wise)
Sony- God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank

As for Nintendo, I always considered Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon the "Big Three."

GTA, Final Fantasy & Tekken..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I always think of Gran Turismo, Singstar, and Eyetoy as Sony's consistent big three.

As for MS, I think of Halo, Forza and Fable.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Imo - Master Chief(Halo), Marcus(Gears), Arbiter(Halo) - Character wise

Gamewise - Halo, Gears, Alan Wake - Despite being in development for god knows how long, people are still hoping and most have heard of it.

The history is written by the Victors.

wouldn't consider Metroid as a big Nintendo franchise, considering how it sold.... instead, put the Wii### titles.

Xbox has its big hitters, halo, gears.

But sony relies on many many AAA titles instead of just 1 or 2

MS has at the moment Halo, Gears and Fable (#4 - Forza)
(Not counting MS Flight Simulator and Age of Empires, because both series are.... inactive)

And yeah I know AoE II was on the PS2...

I was assuming this was a thread about Sony,M$,and Nintendo and not zelda, mario, and metroid game comparisons on other platforms.

I think it's a fanservice thing rather than a sales thing.... otherwise Nintendo's would be Mario, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. (with Mario).... though the Wii franchise is a new addition to that.

In other words there generally needs to have been some kind of history behind a game franchise/series.

For Sony, Gran Turismo is the obvious one, God of War comes second, and I would say Ratchet and Clank third.

For Microsoft, Halo is the obvious one, Gears may only have 2 games so far but seems to be another, Forza follows I guess, though I could swap that out with Fable/Project Gotham.

Microsoft - Halo, Gears and Forza. I would say Mass Effect but I don't think MS owns the franchise.

Sony - Gran Turismo, Uncharted and God of War maybe? I won't say MGS since it is 3rd party.
