Hmm, looking at all these votes for this gen being the best, I can only come to 1 conclusion. Most of the people voting for that this gen is the best must not have been around for the 16-bit or even 8-bit days of gaming. Poor young kids, they will never know what it truly means to be gaming enthusiasts.

There's nothing more annoying than people living in the past refusing to accept things may be better now.

I think the end of this generation will be where games take a place next to films in the media industry and people start realising that games are not just for kids. The industry has seen that for a while but it's taking time for the general public to realise it also, then they can stop with all the "video games are killing our kids and making them violent" crap and start actually looking after their kids rather than sitting them down with Call of Duty as a babysitter.

I think people already realise what is aimed at kids, it reflects with the success of the Wii, but people still buy their kids 18 rated games without a second thought then complain when "little timmy" starts swearing and taking an interest in combat knives.

Games wise this genre's been really dull in my opinion, it's all about polish and graphics rather than innovation and excitement. Theres no real "must own" games because nearly all of them incorperate mechanics or playstyles seen in other games. Past generations all had their innovative and stand out titles that defined things for the industry to come and were genuinely exciting, nowadays most games are just clones of things that already exist and just don't have the WOW factor games like the old Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Sonic, Duke Nukem, Tekken and Final Fantasy games had.

We need more Wii Sports, Little big planet, Heavy Rain, Shadowrun and Mirrors Edge style games that attempt to push boundaries and bring out new playstyles rather than all these sequels and games that just polish off what we've already seen and done a million times. I think console gaming future may lie in MMOs.

And FFS...... having an ending where you either die or can sacrifice yourself to save the world is neither shocking or innovative, I'm sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well there's some but the problem is people dont buy them. Valkyria Chronicles, Demon Soul's, Final Fantasy is different as in they changed the mechanics whether people like it is a different story they try to evolve it more than others, they have to be safe, because they still need $$. OBv people buy FF. Mass Effect Is another good example. Mixing Genres. Hell Bioshock is a really good example.

But I like to live in the past, the past is all I know. New things scare me, especially that little blue tweety bird. The internet is a menace I tell you, a menace.

I do like this generation, better graphics, better sound, and a few really fun and innovative games. Also a very innovative cosole like the wii. Even with all the innovations and fun titles, I still have to say that for me, the best was 16-bit. It is not reveling in the past, it is becasue it was when RPG's got real steam and there were more great RPG's then there are great games this gen. With me bieng a classing JRPG fan, this is what makes it tops for me. If this gen started to kick out a ton of great old school JRPG's where I can control a whole team of characters and go back to turn based/ATB based then this gen would win without question.

XBox exclusives are mostly fps's. But Nintendo and Sony have much more variety.

Viva Pinata, Viva Pinata Trouble In Paradise, Forza 2 & 3, PGR 3 & 4, Banjo Kazooie N&B, Blue Dragon, Fable II, Gears 1 & 2 (Third Person Shooter), Halo Wars, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Ninja Blade, Race Pro, Scene It 1 & 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Dead Rising, Crackdown.

Thats just a start but there is loads of others too that aren't FPS.  I'm guessing you don't have a 360 so you have no idea of how varied the software is, its just easy to copy every other troll and call it the shooter box.

I don't think that anyone denies that the Xbox360 has games other then shooters. But the major question is, which games are really successful on the 360 that are not shooters.

To give a PS2 analogue, there is Katamari, Ico and for the PS3 there is LBP, Ratchet and clank and GoW3.

I just can't think of any really successful 360 games that are not shooters, other then FFXIII or Forza.

I can list at least 10, some are listed in the quote I gave you.  Since when did a game have to sell x amount to be considered whether it exists for the purposes of a debate.  My point is quite clear that he said most 360 exclusives are FPS's, that is a lie, he is wrong, there really is no debate regarding that fact.

If you want to get on the variety fact and what sells then in all honesty I wouldn't be a poster child for the PS3's variety of sales as its got its fair share of problems shifting software other than the traditional hardcore market.  If you say Nintendo have more variety there is a huge amount of gamers not being serviced or happy with what Nintendo is providing on the Wii too.  The PS3 doesn't have anywhere near the variety of the PS2 and never will as its been marketed to a older crowd, pure and simple.

I did not at all say that a game has to sell X amount to be considered whether it exists or not. As I already stated, no one denies that Xbox360 has variety. I simply believe that most people will argue that the games of different varieties are no where near as successful as the shooter genre.

You do not see the same thing when it comes to PS3, Wii, PS3, or any other console to even close to the same degree as you see it on the Xbox360. This is why the Xbox360 has been pegged as the shooter box. It just does not have a sizeable list of non shooter games that have been succesful.

I also never said that the PS3 nor Wii had a great amount of successful variety either. The Wii is famous for mini-game games and prime nintendo franchises. The PS3 is known for Blu-Ray more then any one genre. Each conosle has thier niche.

Finally, for all the xbox exclusives that come to mind that are really successful and not shooter games, I can still only think of Forza. Fable, and maybe Mass Effect, but that is kind of a rpg/shooter.

I will say again, most successfull games on the Xbox 360 (a system is generally known by it successfull games and not it's semi-successful games) are in the vast majorty shooters of one type or another. The same cannot be said for either of the 2 current gen systems.

I entered the debate disagreeing with a guy who said 360 exclusives are mostly FPS's, he was wrong.  You then quoted me and tried to make out I said something in error, which I didn't.

It doesn't matter how successful the different varieties are, they're available on the console so my point that there is variety is more than justified.  I'm not arguing perceptions with you, there is no point as its purely subjective, the facts of the matter is that most 360 exclusives are NOT FPS games, it really isn't such a hard concept to grasp and its concrete fact not opinions.

I guess we are discussing two different points then. I am leaning towards how the perception of Xbox360 as a shooter box because the majority of it's hit titles are shooters and the success of the hit titles for a system usually defines the system in the eyes of the public.

Your point is true that not all exclusives are FPS's. I was just trying to give a different side of the story as to why many peole think that it is so. I was not arguing with you directly nor trying to prove you wrong, just looking at it from a different angle. No need to be in a huff about it.

Last point, I never once said that 360 exclusives are all FPS's, I fully grasp that it has a wider variety in it's library then that. You are putting me in a category to which I do not fit by your last statement.

I guess, I see your point. Square, and Tri-Ace are not making New School RPG's

The best ones in my opinion

1. FFXIII (It doesn't feel like the other final fantasy, minus the really odd humor that's been in it since atleast 7) Modified ATB,
2. Valkyria Chronicles (Is a Strategy Based JRPG)
3. Resonance of Fate. Is Hardcore, but not in the classic JRPG sense... because the battle system is awesome, but not classic at all.
4. Eternal Sonata (This was a weird game but I liked it... not sure it could be called a classic JRPG)
5. Lost Odyssey (The Final Fantasy Creator My guess doesn't have the SE cast around him.)

Hey theres DQX on gamecube! Star Ocean Ocean was bad.
So I see your point if you like old school JRPG's, the JRPG's are changing atleast. I think

I loved FFXIII battle but I can't play the battle systems of FF I-V, FFVI is good. And the PS ones are good. But I guess that's why I'm enjoying a few current JRPG's though there aren't a great many. Cause I always thought the battlesystem was the weakest part of a JRPG, and random battles.

That was my point, you seemed to be saying I disagreed with a point you made which I never actually did.  I agree there is a perception problem that the 360 is all shooters, my point was that it is not the case at all, that was all.  On your closing sentence, look at what Herbie said in the first quote please, that was his point not yours.

I don't get in a huff over a website, there is a little x button in the top right if I ever got that serious, or of course Alt+F4.

Okay, it is settled. Now we both understand each other.

Oh and btw, Halo Sux...:)
*Runs and hides.* lol

this gen is the best, one and the biggest reason for it are risks. i never expected for games like heavy rain, mag, little big planet, red steel 2, and borderlands to come out. those games game us new feelings.

and their are the bluck busters: gears of war 2, mass effect 2, god of war, uncharted 2, mgs4, old games were great but those gamers just blow them off, with internet and easier online gaming, it makes this gen my favorite

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
