I guess, I see your point. Square, and Tri-Ace are not making New School RPG's
The best ones in my opinion
1. FFXIII (It doesn't feel like the other final fantasy, minus the really odd humor that's been in it since atleast 7) Modified ATB,
2. Valkyria Chronicles (Is a Strategy Based JRPG)
3. Resonance of Fate. Is Hardcore, but not in the classic JRPG sense... because the battle system is awesome, but not classic at all.
4. Eternal Sonata (This was a weird game but I liked it... not sure it could be called a classic JRPG)
5. Lost Odyssey (The Final Fantasy Creator My guess doesn't have the SE cast around him.)

So I see your point if you like old school JRPG's, the JRPG's are changing atleast. I think
I loved FFXIII battle but I can't play the battle systems of FF I-V, FFVI is good. And the PS ones are good. But I guess that's why I'm enjoying a few current JRPG's though there aren't a great many. Cause I always thought the battlesystem was the weakest part of a JRPG, and random battles.
