Forums - PC - Finally getting a NEW Laptop! Suggestions Please (I am clueless about this)

@kingofwale

cool I'll look into that. Some people have said that SONY might let go of the VAIO brand cus it doesn't make profit, thats another reason why I'm reluctant to buy one

@Squilliam

lol uni rooms are small, but yeah buying a monitor might be better, but it has to be in HD.

I really don't wanna leave my PS3 at home, but then again I probably won't have time for PS3!

@Mazty

I don't necessarily want to be playing on the highest graphics level, I am fine with medium or even low, so future proof in that sense.

Last I read (think it was on Toms hardware) Asus was the "new" most reliable labby (high end).

They also tend to be competitively priced.  Both my brother and my grandfather just bought an Asus Labby off Newegg.  They both seem to be very well built and actually came with a disc that removed all the crapware they had installed.

Check this out.

And this. Which interestingly enough comes with Nvidia 3D vision!

@Squillian definitely go HD 58xx. Awesome mobile grphix cards (they also use a less power than the comparable GTX)

If it's for gaming and you r willing to spend more than £1000 then I would recommend "Alienware M15x". You also say you need it for at least 5 years and future proof so I suggest some customizations:
1) Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
2) LCD: 15.6-inch Wide Full HD Display (1920x1080)
3) Memory : 4 GB DDR3 or 4096 MB DDR3
4) Hard drive: 500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
5) Graphic Card: 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260M graphics card
6) Upgrade the battery to 9-cell

If you want blue ray or not is up to you

So I went to the dell site and custmized this laptop (without blue ray) and it cost after taxes and delivery £1,348.99. Good luck

Thank you, that seems pretty good!

Total BS, Sony Viaos are some of the most reliable laptops I've used, (I've tried Lenovo, 2 Dell (one being XPS line), Macbook), the Z is just sexy as hell. and it has real horse under it.

the only problem is affordablility, if you need a laptop on the go, it's a great choice... if not, you can find a 15 inch for much less.

Its the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M 1GB

Is that a good one?

Checking out the two you posted now (thanks for helping)!

My laptop is fairly new and has an HDMI port and is good at games and so on so on.

It has a 2.5 GHz Dual Core processor, a fairly good graphics card and 6 gigs of RAM.

It cost me around 9000kr wich is about $1285 I believe.

there are cheaper laptops with similar specs I believe. If you want it to be future proof, you should look for laptops with similar specs.

I LOVE ICELAND!

What's the graphics card? Plus, there isn't even a dvd drive I mean what the...? Also what is the speed of the i5 processor (the one in MHz or GHz)?

Edit: Although I would recommend ATI Mobility RADEON ® HD 4670 - 1GB instead for the graphics card.
