Because Playstation's cultural relevance is in a nadir, and the Wii and DS are at apexes the likes of which gaming hansn't seen since the PS2.
Taken as a snapshot of current cultural relevance, I don't see how there's any comparison, here.

That's why the "PlayStation" line of consoles sold over 400k units this week.
DS line of consoles sold 366k.
Wii line sold 299k.
And saying the bolded is fixed for you. You may even have to remove the Wii from that phrase if it doesn't end up passing the PS2, but that's for another topic.

You do realize that you said Playstation was larger than Nintendo, right? You don't get to pull the "playstation family" bit while separating Nintendo's fair that way after a line like that. More, the DS alone has outsold all current-gen Playstation platforms combined.
And no, I meant since the NES, particularly in th states - not as a measure of raw sales but as a brand identity which shaped pop culture in the 80's.
The idea that Playstation right now is bigger than Nintendo is indefensible.

When people say they will play Wii, they don't say "Let's go play Nintendo Wii!"... They simply say "Let's go play Wii!".
Same goes for DS. I even still hear people call the DS a Gameboy ¬_¬
And it doesn't matter that the DS has outsold the PS3 and PSP. The PS2 is still there, still selling and STILL very, very well known WORLDWIDE.
The bolded made me lol. Are you suggesting that the PSone/PS2 didn't greatly "shape pop culture" in the 90's/00's? Seriously? The PS brand dominated gaming for over a decade.
Even a bunch of Nintendo fans admit that the PS brand is still the biggest.
