I saw plenty of difference, most notably color varieties improved, texture resolutions, frame numbers for animations (smooth), more pleasant appaerances (the cell shading used, but not over done shows definition better), the depth in to the background that's visible, take a look at the way Mario runs, I would guess only 8 frames or so per stride in Sunshine, per leg, while Galaxy is definitely more realistic in terms of bending, legs dangling, and such - the models look cleaner and seem to have more movement ability.
Also, we're looking at a compressed video here, unless you're viewing an uncompressed file, even Mario 64 will look similar to a lot of these scenes.
We could compare Halo 1 to Halo 2 and come to the conclusion it's similar, but I'm not entirely sure what the objective would be. And, of course studios use similar 3D models in other games, it makes sense. Mario certainly shouldn't gain 40 lbs, lose 40 lbs, start wearing a yellow outfit instead of red and blue, etc etc. Let's give Mario pink hair just so it looks different? No no, that's just wrong.
At some point, a sphere can only look so much more like a sphere.... all spheres are the same. The assumption in critical looks at differences is that a difference in models were even intended. It still looks better. Why mess with perfection when supposedly perfect is right in front of you? No reason to.
Did anyone hear the outcry about Sonic changing in appearance? If Mario looked drastically different, Mario would be more foreign, and that's certainly not the objective.
Anyway, this video more or less makes me want to play Sunshine, of which I've never even played before.
Numbers: Checker Players > Halo Players
Checkers Age and replayability > Halo Age and replayability
Therefore, Checkers > Halo
So, Checkers is a better game than Halo.
