Which you prefer to be out of the video gaming race

SONY 64 32.99%

MICROSOFT 48 24.74%

NINTENDO 20 10.31%

APPLE 60 30.93%

OTHERS (if theres any) 2 1.03%

Total:194

Microsoft. Although there is little love lost between me and Sony, Microsoft is more aggressively courting a demographic that has been actively harmful to gaming for a long time now.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I don't know how anyone that enjoys the video game industry could say Nintendo! You may not like the Wii, but you have to respect what Nintendo has done for us since the 1980's!! Both Microsoft and Sony bullied their way into gamers hearts which is fine, but Nintendo has done more for us for a longer period of time! I would say Apple since we really do not need more than 3 companies!!

my thoughts exactly minus the embolded part.  I have no interest in nintendo or any of its games but there is no denying what it has done and I would like to hear from anyone that want rid of them and why.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

I kind of like how there's the 'Big 3' right now. I'm not sure how big a player Apple will become, but I have no reason to want any of them out of the 'race'.

Bah!

Hrm... it's kinda tough to answer. If I felt that Apple were in the gaming business, I would say them easily. However, I see their games as a by-product of their multimedia products. So from my eyes, they're not in it already. And I'd like it to stay that way.

Of those who are in it, I'd have to say Sony. I feel that they are the ones most responsible for this mess that gaming is in today, and they've also brought the least to the table. They see an idea they like, they copy it. Sometimes it gets improved (N64 thumbstick -> PS1 Dualshock), sometimes not (Sega CD -> PS1 CD format). For actual gaming innovation, they've done the least. Nintendo did a gamut, from the d-pad to making motion a standard, and MS made online a feasible option and was the first to think of an actual HDD for console storage.

MS

Nintendo is like its own console now and i feel it will stay like this for years to come most of its games are completely different from the ps3 and 360 and most of the multis on the ps360 dont ever come out for it there consoles offer a experience to people that ps360 dont so theres no reason for them to be left out

sony was 1st in 94 MS came out yrs later more and more games are going multi now no need to have two of the same consoles

apple? never knew they where even in a race

Yes i can say they have replicated some ideas that were good. And its always great to innovate but if you improve on tech already in place and important for gaming then isnt that quite a great contribution to gaming. If ANY company didnt improve on something they have replicated then i would say that is counter productive to gaming. I would say micro has done the least innovation up until natal (which is debatable). All they have done is online which everyone can do now and nothing has changed much since. You could say Fps too, but others to me do it alot better. But its a just food for thought and my opinion.

As for the topic. Apple, i would never play ANYTHING they offer over something from ANY of the big 3. I would rather play Lair for the next 1,000 years then the idiotic ipod crap. Again my opinion.

Ha! I'm disgusted that Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft have around 60% of the poll.

There is no other reason than something I can't say.

Eh, to each their own. I just feel that, if left to their own, Sony would be the first to stagnate from a lack of new innovation. As for MS, I've mentioned a couple things they've done for console gaming before. Note how you have the qualifier 'now' for everyone doing online. That might have happened if MS didn't start it, but I can tell you that PSN would be a fraction of what it is now, and I don't think Nintendo would be doing online gaming at all right now. But I can name more. MS wasn't the first to do DL games. But demos? EVERY XBL game has a demo availiaible. Headsets for communicating? MS. Even something as simple as moving the power button to the standard controller was their doing. (There was a power button on the PS2 DVD remote, but this was not the standard controller.)

Oh i dont doubt online would not be the same if micro would not have come along. I am just saying to write off sony as responsible for the mess that is gaming/ copycats when they improve on virtually everything they come out with. And to say they bring the least to gaming is quite debatable.
