Forums - Nintendo - Capcom: Monster Hunter Tri Isn't only for Hardcore

I doubt itll reach a substancial casual audience. Ive only played the MH3 demo, but even that took me a while to "get" and appreciate. The game involves too much multitasking, the WiiFit crowd wont dig it, but perhaps the younuns will find a new oppsession, provided an impressive ad campaign works in their favor.

The MH3 demo is a cakewalk compared to the horrors the whole game involve.

It's been pointed out already but it's the hardest RPG this side of Demon's Souls. Capcom's crazy if they think this will gain anything resembling a casual following outside of Japan.

It may not be a game that only 'hardcore' gamers can play, but the amount of people you want to market a game it is directly proportional to the amount of marketing you put into the game. And while this game is suppose to have commercials and good advertising going for it, I have yet to see one commercial for the game actually on TV on any station.

If they want the 'casual' market to know the game exists, they need to tell them its out there.

Well it releases in America on April 20th, and in Europe the 23rd (I think). Since today is the 3rd, I wouldn't expect to see a TV ad for another 13 days....

As for it being casual, the ONLY way people will accept this game, is if it is easier. From what I know, it has a steep learning curve, and is way too hard for people to just pick up and get a hold of. If there is a difficulty setting (Easy, Medium,Hard, Hunter) then I could imagine people getting on board.

The ads....I don't know, I wouldn't know how to market it, but I would definitely throw families in there, having fun together while playing this game. Having a son playing while his father is watching would be even better. Showing a mother & daughter picking out clothes for their female hunter would bo good too IMO. I just hope the Scottish guy things works.

I respectfully disagree. Games like Pokemon are simple enough for the casuals to adopt, yet they have immense depth for core gamers to suck their teeth into. MH games demand the player to be persistent, tactile and even then, they can kick you in the teeth!

Casuals could very well give up on their first wyvern mission, if not even sooner...

Yeah, especially Pokemon. There is all that EV and IV training stuff plus all that moveset stuff.

For a Monster Hunter game, a player can complete a few quests and feel accomplished. The obsessive player can grind and grind and get tons of awesome gear and walk away satisfied.

OK, try slaying Rathalos with your girlfriend. Count the hairs pulled afterwards.

Well, she's not my girlfriend but I know better than to play anything other than Mario Kart and old co-op virtual console games with her.

considering i haven't picked up the demo again since not being able to beat the level one monster after like 5 tries, i have to say this is not a game for the casuals.

it is not an easy game, you can't even step aside to heal without getting raped again. this game is not for the casuals.

Are you all basing this on the belief that difficult and complex=not for casual gamers? Trust me, those aren't deterrents.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I don't think 'casual' gamers mind if a game is hard, but the difficulty should ramp up AFTER they already have a good hold of things. If the 'price of entry' is too steep, they won't bother going in.

The thing is that while actually figuring out how to beat a monster takes a learning curve, just running around with the weapon is relatively easy. Many so-called casual gamers never even get far in games, but still have fun with them.

Diablo 2 is for the everyone crowd. There is no reason why MH3 can't be................
oh wait, clunky slow controls, long periods to get to a quest, learning curve. These are all things Diablo doesn't have and it sells well. I guess MH3 isn't for everyone but a niche crowd that likes those things. I hear Capcom bitching soon about how "casual" gamers are retards.
