Yeah, especially Pokemon. There is all that EV and IV training stuff plus all that moveset stuff.

 

For a Monster Hunter game, a player can complete a few quests and feel accomplished. The obsessive player can grind and grind and get tons of awesome gear and walk away satisfied.

OK, try slaying Rathalos with your girlfriend. Count the hairs pulled afterwards.

Well, she's not my girlfriend but I know better than to play anything other than Mario Kart and old co-op virtual console games with her.
