like i said on your wall, im no alt account (LOL) i just have been on this site for years but just recently made an account.. you know

EDIT: oh and very smart how you ignored everything else i wrote, i mean.. wow, very smart.. :'D

and they way you changed the subject... im impressed, kowenicki, no really..

You say you know MikeB so well, so didn't you realize Kowenicki was just mimicking MikeB's reply style?  MikeB only ever replies to one small portion of your post rather than the whole argument.  It's how he avoids admitting he is wrong.

oh... hey mikeb... what did you think of the removal of the OS feature?

A loss, but not very relevant to the vast majority of users.

From my perspective, anyone who was really interested in the Cell will have gotten a fat PS3 and has evaluated the Cell processor. So not a big loss at this point.

Hope this helps you somehow...

thats strange you have previously pointed to this as a great feature that would attract "tech enthuisiasts" such as yourself.

but anyway... what is this poll supposed to achieve again?  what will you do with the results?

LOL, it is pretty funny that the self proclaimed technophile that praised the feature before now thinks it's no big loss.

I'm beginning to wonder if the B in MikeB's name is for BULLS*IT...

Here in Sydney Australia there are always plenty of consoles with the exception of Christmas time.

Lol, this thread is whack. Just another feable attempt at tooting the PS3's horn. Well the PS3 coulda sold a bajillion more consoles if only they were in stock. What a crock of it.

Went shopping for another ps3 last night. Went to Sony Store, Sold out, Went to Future Shop, Sold out, so talked to the manager and even his warehouse had none. I counted 7 different 360 versions available with stacks of them. So I went to EB GAmes "Game Spot", They had 2, so I bought 1. It was a gift.

@ Legend11, kowenicki and nightsurge

Let's not drag this down to kindergarten level please...

Yes, I said in the past the Linux support was great on the PS3 for getting your hands on the Cell processor in a cheap and easy way. Linux on the PS3 allows for access to the SPUs and provides the needed development tools.

When the PS3 slim was introduced, I said the loss of Linux support wasn't a major issue for the platform as the vast majority of people would not use this feature (not everyone is a programmer).

The programmers who are serious about Cell development should get a PS3 development kit, but IMO it was good that there was an easy and cheap oppertunity to evaluate the Cell for those who cared.

Don't like this opinion? I don't care and move on please.

PS3 vs 360 sales

Expect the numbers to be even higher. There could be as much as 2-4 million PS3's "on shelves".

It doesn't seem to be so much a byproduct of more being on shelves, but that for some reason Sony still isn't quite reporting shipped the same as everybody else.

There latest shipped numbers from last quarter didn't even seem to gel when it came to PS3, PSP or PS2.  Not just with Vgchartz, but with EVERY tracker.  Heck from what I hear we're about 2 million higher then NPD when it comes to NA.

Don't you remember how stupid it got here not too long ago?  Back when the bans were threatened?

It was actually mentioned a lot, but may have been drown out by the bullshit.  Best guess is, Sony may be counting replacement systems as shipped.  Or at least that sounds like the best guess to me.

In the coming months Sony and Microsoft will announce how many XBox 360s and PS3s have been sold to retailers worldwide until the end of March 2010.

I was wondering which console has fewer units in stock at retail at the moment, so this poll may help provide some insight with regard to future 'sold to retail' comparisons.

Various times in the past it was claimed the bigger boxed fat PS3 had about 1 million more units on the shelves than 360s, which sounded weird to me (a lot of extra needed shelf /storage space in comparison to the 360).

In my area, Groningen, the Netherlands shops are currently flooded by especially cheap XBox 360 arcade units while there are PS3 shortages.

That comparison can only be made when both Sony and Microsoft use the same definition of shipped units. We know both are to retail, but it isn't clear which units are included into that total and whether one or both include things like replacement or demo units.

If we assume this, we can easily assume Microsoft wins with regard to replacement units...

Seriously replacement units are not counted as extra "hardware sales" to retail, they are replaced for free.

Futureshop has a cool feature that allows you to check their stores' stock online.  Out of the 57 Ontario Futureshops that I checked to see if they have PS3 120GB systems in stock only 1 doesn't.  You can also order one from their website and it's in stock there so it makes no sense to me that the manager at the one you went to said their warehouse has none.  Was he trying to push the more expensive 250GB one on you which is at every store?

It just seems so odd to me that when I went out shopping earlier this week there were PS3s everywhere (120gig included) but some others on here in the same country seem to be experiencing Wii 2007/2008 like shortages.  Interestingly enough when the Wii had shortages it was very hard to get in the stores where I am.

Actually Sony may counted that as "shipped."  They don't report "Hardware sales" they report shipped... and there numbers don't match up to any major source.

Something is different in the way Sony counts it's numbers.
