Pfft. Starting your own cult is where it's at.

Does Christianity count?

Some Evanghelists tried to convert my cousin in exchange for letting him play basketball in the field in front of their church. They're considered a cult where I live.

Actually, I ran into a bunch of Wicca in the wood once. It was midnight (i was leaving a friends house and trying to go through the forest as a shortcut. forest is about a mile thick). Anyways, i come into this opening and there are a bunch of people in white robes. Now at first i thought this was some racist gang or something so i nearly shit myself from fear.

anyways i stumbled upon them and thought I was seriously going to be either gang attacked or shot. Well, they invited me into their camp fire and told me to sit down. I actually remember peeing myself a little because there were about 8 of them. Anyways, they all praised the Earth god and i did as well because i wasn't about to offend these wackos. Anyways, an hour later their meeting ended and i ran like hell out of there.

They called me a brother so i guess i was in a cult.

Can you care to elaborate how Wicca is a cult?

Oh and from your description, the group you stumbled was a derivative branch of Wicca in which they praise Cernunnos, the god of stags, earth and the hunt.

But really, I just want you to elaborate on how is it a cult, as it's a recognized worldwide religion based on ancient celtic rituals and beliefs, which has over 50 million believers and followers all around the world. I'm one of them.

The difference between a cult and a religion is about 150-200 years. That's long enough for not only the founder, but also everyone who knew the founder personally, to be gone. A cult -held together mainly by the personal charisma of its leader- will disintegrate fairly quickly under such circumstances, while a religion -held together mainly by philosophical insight- will survive that setback.

The problem is, it's impossible to tell which is which before that amount of time has passed. Both cults and religions (and political movements, for that matter) need charismatic leaders to get off the ground, and this tends to make them indistinguishable as long as that leader is alive. Exceptions can exist -mostly dealing with cases where the actual founding of the movement is documented and verifiable- but neither cults nor religions tend to leave such documentation around.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I was offered a tryout to be the lead vocalist for the Cult and I told them to go to hell.

I never liked that song Fire Woman. Love Removal Machine isn't very good either.

Apocalypse ended with the dead of Nero. Why do people still care for that stupid story? >_>

Pretty sure some of the things mentioned like asteroids hitting the earth, or supervolcanos spewing enough ash to blanket out the sun hasn't quite happened after Nero's death...

Apocalypse is a story written in response to the reign of Emperor Nero.

Every letter in the Hebrew alphabet also represents a number. Add all the letters of Kaisar Neron together and you get 666. What a surprise.

Apocalypse is written in a time where there was turmoil in the Roman empire(especially for the early christians) hence why they thought the world was coming to an end.

Supervolcanos and asteroids have happened as well and it didn't end life on earth. Without the extinction of the dinosaurs we would have never existed.

Last I checked, the book of Revelation was written well after Nero's reign, and contained specific language on specific events like asteroids hitting earth - which has not happened to the magnitude described in the book. I'm not arguing that it would end life on earth - just that it'd cause the devastaiton perscribed in the book.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Most scholars believe it's written during Nero's reign. Others say it's written during Domitian's reign, but they're a vast minority as there's less proof for this.

Just because it says that asteroids will hit the earth doesn't mean it's going to happen. Everyone can write and discribe nonsense like that. Believing in the book of revelation will only lead to self fulfilling prophecy.

And a big asteroid is bound to hit(unless we stop it) the earth one day anyway. What a prediction! Same goes for the Volcano and earthquakes.

Could you point me to where 'most scholars' believe it was written during Nero's reign? I've never seen any writing that ascertains that most accept a date of Nero's reign for the writing of the book.

My professor of Ancient history(just Roman-Greek history really) had a few lessons about the bible, explaining in what context the bible was written in.

You can try Wikipedia, but that's not a good source anyway.
