Great content, but i'm not sure i agree with his conclusions. is he proposing browser-based gaming, or something like it?

And yeah, there is a problem with them preparing for Wii 2, and not really doing anything now, as they'll just be in the same boat with Wii 2 that they are now: they don't know what they should be doing and they won't have time to figure it out while Nntendo takes all the marbles, again...

That's just the thing, isn't it? Nintendo doesn't take all the marbles. They can't. EA's first priority here, in order to create a safety buffer, will probably be to bring their current audience over to the Wii's successor.

Who is their audience on Wii now, though? In terms of definite brand loyalty, i don't see much in there. They've had successes and failures, but nothing they can make stick. My guess is they'll start from scratch on Wii2 like virtually everyone else is going to have to.

Oh no you misunderstand me

I don't mean their audience from the Wii.

You have to make an audience to bring an audience. They need to make good games, not "casual" games and "test" games (I so want to punch developers in the face for that; I'm not spending $50 for a game I don't want when it doesn't even have a guarantee I'll get games I want later on).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

"I don't mean their audience from the Wii."

They don't have much of an audience on the HD systems, unless they bring their franchises over, and that's again just using the next system's specs as a crutch.

Yes, but I fully expect them to do this as a supplement for whatever new direction they take.

^ I agree with that. Thirds are in for a rude awakening if they think they can just wait until the next gen and have Wii type consumers take to them. What they need to do is start this gen in making games familiar to those consumers next gen. There has been a lot of established IP's that have been damaged due to them not appearing on the market leader to the point where those consumers won't even care about the next iteration.

In fact, it might be even worst for them next gen.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

"Yes, but I fully expect them to do this as a supplement for whatever new direction they take."

I'm not claiming they won't do that. I'm claiming they shouldn't. Putting those games on the Wii is the way to prove the games are good because they are good, not because of the system specs.

BTW, as much as I like Chop Till You Drop, it does show how flawed the original game was. Just the snobcore refuse to see it that way.

Then we don't disagree.
