Forums - Sony Discussion - 3 Games that can show what the PS3 can do

MGS4, GoW3 and probably GT5 will =)

Around the Network

The titles which i hope will release in the near future would be able to prove more what PS3 can do. Never the less mentioning God of WAR III(extremely superb gfx), the latest and the best out of all there to me by comparing with UC2, MGS4, Heavy Rain and Killzone 2.

FFS Mr 'its only your opinion'. Cut the BS man. I have stated nothing which is not backed up by facts so either apologise, prove me wrong or stop derailing the topic. Because you do not understand what I mean, this doesn't make me wrong. It just means that you need to educate yourself about computing.

No Squilliam. You behave this way in every Sony/PS3 thread you enter and people are damn tired of it. I don't give a damn if you proved what you were claiming or not (which is my fault for engaging you in the first place) but you have yet to post what the OP asked for. The OP asked you to list three games showing what the PS3 can do. Why was that so hard for you to do in the first place?

Maybe im tired of the baseless arguments about what the PS3 can/cannot do relative to what other platforms can/cannot do. Maybe im also tired of the fact that by attributing the qualities of the game titles to the platform it debases the excellent effort and artistic work developers put into the games they create and maybe im also tired of the fact that people create arguments to paint a rose tinted world view which excludes completely anything that may shatter that same world view whether its casual software, the Wii's sales or the performance of the PC.

You know what, go make a thread about it and quit ruining threads who's topics you don't favor.

I was responding to the TCs content and not the title. If you don't like it why don't you ask him to change it?

The Xbox 360 can do all those games perhaps with lower visual effects due to how they are optimised for the PS3. If you say that lower visual effects would take away significantly from the game then either they would be by far better released on PC or they are terrible games to play, take your pick.

Can you prove your theory?

Easy:

1. Every program that the PS3 can run the Xbox 360 can run, the only question is how fast. They are both sharing similar instruction sets and they are both Turing complete.

2. The relative performance between the Xbox 360 and PS3 is similar.

3. A lower resolution proportionately lowers pixel shader load as well as enables the Xbox 360s GPU to operate more efficiently by avoiding the use of tiling. This frees up any inherrant or imagined performance differences from becoming a factor.

4. All the games stated, Killzone 2, MGS4, Uncharted 2 are linear and both consoles have 512MB of ram so the effective maximum number of assets seen at the same time are identical and the use of multiple DVDs is practical. They also use lossless compression of audio which is indistinguishable for most people compared to more lossy compression and this is a large space saving.

5. When considering online much of the load is infact taken up by the servers. Live has a lot of very big servers so this isn't a problem.

6. Final Fantasy XIII + other multiplatform games perform well on the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.

1. Sure, but where's the fun when Uncharted 2 just runs on 10 FPS on 360?

2. opinion much? Where's your proof?

3. A lower resolution DOES make the game look worse. i can't imagine playing KZ2 with worse graphics as IMO it lives from the good graphics.

4. Nah, I rather play U2 without chnaing between 4 discs. And yeah, most people can't tell the difference compressed and uncompressed audio, but there are people who are able to. Releasing the games on Xbox 360 would mean the opinions of these people are disregarded.

5. FFXIII? You sure took the best example to show how "similar" the two versions are.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Wh... why are you guys mentioning Lair? it doesn't look great, has terrible FPS, doesn't play great... I mean it's not a bad game but it's not even close to being up with the best on PS3.

Because it's not about the "best" PS3 games per se. Just the ones that show that they couldn't be replicated on other consoles.

Star Wars Rogue squadren on gamecube runs better than Lair. I'd argue the gamecube can replicate a better experience. Visually it isn't that strong aside on still images either...

5. FFXIII? You sure took the best example to show how "similar" the two versions are.

1. Why would it run slow? Its mainly a visual simulation anyway and the Xbox 360 excels at that aspect.

2. Games have been benchmarked and the Xbox 360 is either faster or the same but never slower than the PS3 in running the same program.

3. All games are scaled, it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

4. As for audio, the people I know who appreciate lossless audio are the same people who are appalled by the 'noise' of the PS3. Changing discs isn't a massive problem and it never has been. If you're that appalled by the idea you can use a PC or 360 and never change discs if you want.

5. I figure any PS3 game which in linear and uses a lot of space will be at worst case the difference between FFXIII PS3 and Xbox 360 given the short porting period.

It's not just about visuals. It's on a broader level than that. Lair could not be physically replicated on the GameCube the way it is, doesn't matter what the game's critical acclaim is.

Yeah, I know. But I think it could be pulled off on the 360, you can't be serious if you're trying to tell me Factor 5 were using anywhere near the maximum potential of the cell processor.

MGS4
Uncharted 2
Killzone 2

"You have the right to the remains of a silent attorney"

Geez, I love how the discussion that " the 360 can do as much as the PS3" popped up in this thread. I guess it was expected. Anyway, MGS4, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2. I wanted to add God of War 3, but the OP stated that only 3 was needed.

By the way, I have a question for those who state that the 360 can do as much as the PS3. Are you guys comparing the GPU's? Because those are about the same for both consoles. But the CPU's for both consoles are different. The Cell Processor can do at least 50 more GFLOPS than the 360's processor.
