@MikeB

I was just replying to your post quoted below where you argue that the PS3 is a better FPS console w/ citation to the article you posted.

"BTW according to Infinity Ward studio Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 offers bigger online capacity (24 max players vs 360's 18) and improved visuals."

Peace bro :)

IMO it's a wonderful electronics device, I have been following Cell development for years. I have written many technical articles, someone I know has written lots of articles on the Cell. But I didn't own any of the consoles of the previous generation.

You have gone through the trouble of signing up for this forum, so probably you have some passion regarding any of the consoles as well.

First of all, VGChartz doesn't cover every part in the world (Americas does not equal just the US neither) and with regard to market size you will have to take into account the amount of money people are spending.

1. I'm sure those countries missing from the VGChartz numbers don't make your "The US market isn't bigger than PAL regions and Japan combined (Taking out of account much of the World), not by a long shot." statement close to being true.

2. "The US isn't a bigger market than the rest of the world. Looking at PS2s shipped for the the Americas (of which the US takes up a majority share) 47.68 million consoles have been shipped, for PAL territories it is 44.79 million and for Japan alone it is 25.42 million. Neglecting much of the world 44.79 + 25.42 is still > 47.68"

So why are you yourself using just units and not taking into account money?

If he does that, Europe is a bigger market than the US :) We pay more for games, you know?

@Just_Ben
Paying more for games doesn't make Europe a bigger market :) US makes up for cheaper games w/ sheer quantity. And through the POV of the develper, almost the same amount of money per copy of the game goes to them whether it's sold in the US, Europe or Japan for that matter.

Europe has more consumers than the US, but there are also additional costs involved, such as people speaking different languages (support, translation, etc) or more different local legal systems, government taxes and other differences. The similarities across states makes the US such an interesting market for many companies (you can just have your support staff in India, like Microsoft does).

More consumers != to bigger market for a specific product,

as what you've said, different languages/taxes/legal systems makes it a market with lesser potential than the US where there is a common system.

Sony corporation and Sony fanboys just dont get it. Graphics arent everything! Casuals couldnt tell a difference from high def low def or what ever. They think every unreal tournament since 1999 all looks the same, Guitar hero is the second best selling game this year, and Lair is one of the worst selling games this year. Those Spu's may help to make things prettier but graphics arent everything.

There are over 709 million people living in Europe:

What does this mean for the current gen console war in this Christmas? Oh yeah, nothing...
