He's still talking arena. Cha-Cha isn't an option, and neither is Evasion Plus (probably)

Ah, gotcha. Nevermind those parts then!  I used the bowgun to beat that challenge, but depending on his comfort level, that may not be an option.

By the by, game tonight?  And is it still Wisdom 3, CG 20, City 20?

Definitely. I need to make some money and clear out a few quests (though i'm in a good place. Uragaan, Diablos Capture, and Lagiacrus capture are the only ones i've neglected on the 3-star set, at least for non-advanced)

Soriku it is a long fight. The good thing about arena is that he can't runaway. Don't get hit and punish his charges.  Later in the match he will begin to wear down. At that point it is time to finish him off but don't get too greedy.

I will try to be on tonight.

I am on, Wisdom 3/20/20

I muddled the city a bit to try and deter randoms, making the purpose "Event Quest Ho," with the goal of "Urgent 1*"

Don't get discouraged: Barroth is as tough as some 3-star monsters, and tougher than a few of those as well.  One thing to keep in mind is that greed is bad: if you have a slow weapon, be satisfied with getting just one or two lumps in per charge.  You can actually dodge THROUGH the tail swipes, but the timing is tricky without the EvasionPlus skill, so don't rely on it.

Bring a water weapon if you have one, do NOT heal yourself when he is in the same zone as you, and leave Cha-Cha at home for this mission: you want Barroth to be predictable, and he won't be if he randomly charges Cha-Cha instead of you.

Question: How do you know to use a water weapon against Barroth? I have used a switch axe or a hammer, and just wear him down. I still do not know how to select weapons that are best suited for certain monsters. Should I be picking this up in game itself, or is it just internet research? By the way, how is Wii Speak working for you? Do you have any recommended settings? I still find it hard to always understand the other person.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, always assume you have the upper hand.

NNID = RangerOne

Switch = SW-2393-3671-6907

Internet, mostly. Monsterhunter.wikia.com is your best friend.

Good run this evening, though. Close to high-rank now.

lol now I have to beat Barroth again in the offline mode. Tried him once with switch axe but not sure if that's gonna work this time around, although he did move from area to area couple times and I knocked him down a few times too. I'll probably just make that Ludroth lance or a Spiral lance for water weakness.

I also beat Royal Ludroth earlier. He was really tough :/ Catching him is going to be kinda annoying.

sonic bombs are your best friend underwater

Otherwise FIRE WEAPON works great against water creatures.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

You can capture monsters under water with a shock trap.

Got a pretty good run in after you left. Many 3 * quests and "Cold Call" event. Thought I would have finally been able to play with you. We need to link up man. But now you're on the verge of high rank you'll leave plebs like out lol

Diablos isn't actually that bad, though i haven't beaten him yet. Cha-Cha is a definite help there, as you want his attention off you as much as possible.

Major problems are his lousy hit detection (lousy even by this game's poor hit-detection standards), and running away from his tunneling after i run out of sonic bombs. Fortunately his weaknesses are far more exploitable than Rathalos'. Sonic Bomb is as good as a trap, and i discovered a neat trick in area 9 involving a desert pillar that it's easy to get him to get his horns stuck in (which for a game with as many invisible walls as this game has, it's a rather clever touch)

Just need to bring traps and mega potions next time. And can you *stop* him from burrowing with a flash-bomb?

I managed to capture a Royal Ludroth after like my 4th try. One of the times I ended up killing it and failing but I took a little gamble my 4th time and managed to get it after I assumed his HP was down enough. He doesn't limp so that's annoying.

I managed to make full Rhenoplos armor which stopped me from getting that mud status effect (although most of the time I was blocking them anyway). I made a Spiral Lance and its awesome that lance shields can completely block an attack in exchange for stamina (which is no big deal). Water weakness for Barroth helped. Managed to take him down without TOO much trouble. Too bad lance is slow and not manuevarable...would be awesome if that wasn't the case.

Now trying to beat Gobul. Only attempted him once but he seems tough. Might have to use the lance again, although monsters don't have strengths right? Like, Gobul is a water monster but Spiral Lance would still work well on him even with a water element? Also trying to take down Royal Ludroth in the arena with a GS.

Tomorrow I should finally be getting a LS! :)

I think the Gobul is resistent to water. Better take a thunder or fire weapon. My way to figure out the weaknesses of the monsters was to check the armors, which are made out of the monster. If the armor has weakness against a special element, than the monster also has this weakness. (That's just my own theory and it could be wrong.)
