Forums - Nintendo - Are You Kidding Me? The Virtual Console Strikes Again!

Yes, paying real world money for 20-year-old DRM'd Roms that are locked to one specific console sounds like an awesome investment for the future. Oh, wait...

PS.
Most of those ROMs are totally overpriced. In many cases you could buy real carts/CDs on ebay for less. Real, physical games that aren't locked to a console and that you can resell if you don't want them anymore, to use the money and buy other games. Amazing.

This ends today's reality check.

It's cool if we don't care, though.

Right?

Because I don't care.

I might care if I can't transfer VC games to the next Wii, buuuuut....

Love VC, but it doesn't stop it from being overpriced. It costs way too much for a NES/SNES era game where there really is no work done and no improvements since the game was originally released. The only extras are the DRM stopping you from playing on more than one console. They don't even have to pay for any physical manufacturing and the games are so small that server maintenance is minimal. Seriously, ROMs for most of these games have been available for years and the PC emulators can typically add some extra effects or 'smoothing' if you so desire. The Wii doesn't have any of those options.

It doesn't help that PS1 PSN titles are typically cheaper than SNES era titles either. I reckon they'd get a huge increase in sales if they priced the games more reasonably. At the moment I've only bought 3 titles from VC: Zelda OoT, Super Mario World and Harvest Moon (SNES). I'd buy a lot more if they weren't so terribly priced.

I love love love love love the virtual console.

I know I could download the ROM of most of those games and most of the others I still have the original copy but the games I buy are games I love and seeing them appear on my Wii pages makes me happy to play them again.

Though my friends that see my pages and pages of VC games always scoff at me for how much money I must have spent on those. Whatever, I love the VC. It's great. ^^

not a fan of VC games to expensive and worst of all you have to buy a seperate controller.

Even then it's becoming bundled with games now.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

lol, when I purchased my Wii I had a very good emulator and over 750 NES roms on my PC. Now I have a $250 Wii and $200 worth of VC games. So, yeah considering I spent a good chunk of change for quite a few less games than I had for free... I love the VC.

I'm just upset that I still can't put my games on another Wii.... They're gonna have to do it for the new system anyways, right?

I hope so. Buying a Wii 2 will be a lot easier if I can migrate dozens of awesome downloaded games to it.

Back on topic, I hope if this isn the Turbo CD version of Rhondo of Blood. If not, I hope that comes later (and don't say it won't, since we have both SNES and Genesis versions of Street Fighter II).

Yes, it's PCE Rondo.  Pixel perfect emulation too, unlike the shitty PSP version.  It's untranslated though, and for some reason they changed the voice tracks (maybe due to actor contracts or something?) but the new voices sound fine.

Best version of Rondo you can buy, and likely the cheapest too.

How many megabytes is it? And it's just a guess, but perhaps they couldn't use the old audio and compress it well. Again, just a guess.
