Forums - Sales Discussion - FF13 sales very close in UK: PS3: 54% 360: 46%

Great showing considering the amount of backlash and the fact it's the first time a major (non-MMORPG) installment of the game appears on Xbox 360.  It bodes very well for American numbers for the 360...

PS3 claims 54% of FFXIII sales

by Ben Parfitt

Slight majority of epic RPG’s sales fall in favour of Sony's next-gen machine

The fact that FFXIII has this week claimed the top spot in the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 is of absolutely no shock – but onlookers will be far more interested to see how sales were shared across PS3 and Xbox 360.

And the truth is – in the UK at least – that it was a very close battle. Though MCV is unable to publish specific numbers, we can reveal that Sony’s console claimed 54 per cent of the game’s six-figure sales in its first week of release.

Seeing as the Final Fantasy series is traditionally so intrinsically tied to the PlayStation brand, the result is perhaps not surprising – and Microsoft will probably be quite pleased at claiming a very respectable share of the week-one unit sales.

Lucky XIII for Square-Enix

15/Mar/2010

A week on from yet another fastest selling game of the year so far and the record has yet again been smashed – Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ debuts at No1 on 360/PS3, split 54% PS3 and 46% 360.

The last Final Fantasy title to reach No1 was actually ‘Final Fantasy XII’, back in week 8, 2007 although this was only released on PS2.  Last week’s record breaker, EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ drops to No2 (-38%) and Ubisoft drop one place to No3 with ‘Just Dance’ on Wii (-9%).  Sony’s ‘Heavy Rain’ on PS3 (-8%) remains at No4 and Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ climbs one place to No5 (+11%).  Also climbing one place is Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ at No6 (+2%) – the title also climbs one place in the all-time All Formats total UK market unit sellers, finally outpacing Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA: San Andreas’ to claim second place, behind the UK’s biggest selling game of all time, ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ on DS.

Also of note this week is the release of the third game in the Ben 10 series – D3P/Namco Bandai’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force – Vilgax Attacks’ which debuts at No13 over 5 formats.  Debuting right behind at No14 is THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising’.  Further down the Top 40 we also have Sega’s ‘Yakuza 3’ on PS3 debuting at No24.  Disney’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ makes an appearance at No34 having been released last week and Sega’s ‘Sonic Classic Collection’ on DS is new at No35

YES TOP 2 PLACES!!

GO FFXIII!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Heavy Rain very good :)

UK is the only European country that still has more 360s than PS3s. Continental numbers (France,Germany,Spain,Italy etc.) will be much more in favor of PS3.

People need to realize that the UK is only a small part of Europe, and isn't representative of Europe as a whole.

Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

Good I guess, but thats like being surprised that ps3 version MW2 in japan sold more or close to 360 version....

Both France and Germany each have a larger population than Great Britain. So much for it being the largest market.

Geez, then why are we all talking about UK, France etc? We should be talking about China and Africa!

The market is defined by how much is spent, not the population.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

and to add..

there are far more PS3's in the UK than any other country

UK PS3s is pretty much the same as Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland combined.

Germany: 81,757,600 - 1,807,373
France: 65,447,374 - 2,241,925
United Kingdom: 62,041,708 - 2,966,199

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy and unitary state consisting of four countries, it's not just one country.
