Anyway, why would Nintendo trash talk now?
They have been so incredibly nice when talking about their competition in the past. Miyamoto even went to Microsofts demonstration of Natal and said that he was impressed.

It's not the bashing of Sega that took them down, they started competing with them directly.

Nintendo going HD doesn't mean they'll take the route of other companies. Seems Reggie was confirming that.

Instead of following up the Wii with a sustaining strategy, they'll keep disrupting and provoking. It's the equivalent of them following the NES with NES2, rather than Super NES. They gave in back in the 16 bit era, they're not going to do that now.

Having HD capability is not a paradigm change, it's simply a tiny facet of the product.

It would be pretty embarrasing to be anyone in a Playstation board meeting these days yeah...  How can anyone in that room take anybody there seriously.  Everytime someone talks the mood has to be:

"this guy has no clue what tf he's talking about, we should get a conference call going with Nintendo R&D"

I feel quite angry after reading that comments section. Kotaku can't do anything right, and that seems to include attracting a wortwhile group of people...

What else could he possible say when asked about the Sony Move?  Lie?

It IS embarassing, its borderline pathetic.  What would you say in his possition?  That Sony and MS are visionaries made of courage?  Its a joke.  Natal and Move are punchlines.  Reggie was as reserved as humanly possible given the circumsances.  Miyamoto isn't human, you can't expect Reggie to be on that level.

HD isn't an innovation, its the natural progression of things...  The most obvious, thoughtless and visionless of natural progression choices at that.

I don't think this is too crazy of a thing to say. People were trying not to laugh during the Move press conference. It was really surreal.

And HD gaming doesn't change HOW you play games. It's also been on computers for over a decade. Sony or Microsoft didn't "invent HD gaming." Resolution increases happen all the time and nobody invented them. How could anybody copy HD? It's like "inventing having more colors."

HD has been around since the 90s, PC games have been using it since then.

As for Reggie I actually understand what he mean, the context in his quote is that after initially dismissing MC the competition is now trying to jump a board 4 years into a gen instead of planning it out for the next,  Nintendo wouldn't try implementing features that have taken off until their next console. Sony and MS are doing alright as it is and can afford to wait to next gen to jump on to MC where they can have a battleplan for it but instead it's like they're rushing to jump aboard and take on a competitor who has a massive head start that will be even bigger by the time the Autumn release of Move and Natal arrive. At least if they waited until next gen everyone will start off on the same footing instead of being behind a possible 80m+ sales at launch with Zelda around the corner, it is a bit embarassing as it's put them in a position Nintendo want them, Nintendo could release Zelda on the launch dates of these two just to take the piss.
