Forums - Nintendo - I don't like IV at all in Pokemon games!

So how exactly can i determine EV's and IV's? It seems like i would need to know at least one of those to solve the equation for the other (yay algebra).

EVs range from 0-255 (but you only get 510 total among all stats).  You get them by fighting pokemon.  For example, beating up a Bidoof gets you 1 HP EV (regardless of level, it's always 1).

IVs range from 0-31.  They're generated when you first meet the pokemon so you can't alter them.  You can transfer high IVs with proper breeding though.

There are ways to calculate it but the easiest way is to simply count EVs the moment you catch/breed a new pokemon.

Okay, think of them as being like genetic potential. Each stat has a number, 0-15, that determines how high a stat can be at its maximum with the largest amount of EV invested.

So i presume the I stands for "Initial" and the e stands for "Experience?" And that E is determined by how much exp you put into the level-up process? Or does E stand for "Earned?"

I'm not really sure. But EVs raise your stats by a certain amount, up to the roof determined by IVs.

EV = Effort Values

IV = Individual Values

I myself would like to have the whole concept of IV's explained to me, how they differ from EV's, all that. I've never been a fan of breeding at all

Nature can piss off, i say. Damn crapshoot of determining whether you have optimum pokemon or not.

IV, EV, and Nature can take a long walk off a short pier.  I don't want to breed pokemon, I want to battle them.

Those are some of the most complex formulas for an RPG I've seen. Who would have ever had the time to figure that out?

Nerds.

Oh right it up to 32 values now.

IVs only had 16 values back in the day when I memorized all this crap.

EVs, IVs, and Natures can go fuck themselves.

I'm not breeding Pokemon just so I can get a nature I want. Besides, I don't want to train them the hard way anyways. I will just give em an EXP SHARE and trade them over to another game so I don't have to waste tons of time training.

I will capture Pokemon I like and use those. Fuck balanced teams and advanced movesets.

You should put the stats the pokemon are on level 100(for biggest accuracy) and without EVs(again, for the biggest accuracy) but you can also EV train them and still be able to calculate the IVs

PD: I have a garchomp with 31 IV on Speed and attack and tha nature is jolly =)

Ok you seems like quite a good pokemon master so I'll need your help .

So I have a level 98 Gengar and I EVs trained him for his special attack and speed.

I want to calculate its IV but for some reasons I keep getting stats that are in red on this site.

http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calcdp.shtml

So do I put the total stats (ex 225 HP) in the first line "stats". Do I have to substract something like 63 stats in special attack and speed because I EV trained them? What do I put on the second line? I don't know if it my english or something, but there is something I do wrong I guess.

Anyway thank for the help!

I Have played pokemon since Red and Blue and I don't know what iv's and ev's even are. I simply work on having the best team I can make... Can someone please explain this chaos?

How do you even determine this stuff?

I can't explain it but If you can tell me the EV's reparted to each stat, Stats and Nature I can help you

@AngelFire

You should read the pokemon bible http://www.smogon.com/

I been gave up on "competitive battling" in Pokemon. I have no time and patience into making balanced teams anymore.
