That's an interesting idea; I suppose it could.
The last thing we want is an endless stream of hack and slashes set in different time periods.

I hear that.
It would be awesome if we can get an RPG with Demon's Souls-like gameplay that is based on the time of the Roman Empire (similar to Elder Scrolls), but also allowing you to sail to the Middle East and Eastern Asia.

I think that first and foremost the team should stick to something they are confident in, I can't really imagine them creating a RPG game, they don't have the needed experience to pull game of expected quality.
They should stick to action / adventure genre or something that is close to that. Which ain't RPG.
MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising
for this team i doubt they will create a RPG, hack and slash is their cup of coffee.

Uh.. I said a new IP for 3-4 years, and bring back GoW in the PS4 era..How the hell is that milking ? A CoD game every year is milking, not this...
Besides, Kratos is pretty much guaranteed to fuck-up more than half of Greek mythology in III. Since the devs say they are not done with GoW I see no option other than,

Spin-off featuring other character
Fresh Trilogy based on different setting..
You tell me what you would like ? Me personally, I hate prequels and spin-offs....and continuing the story after III is disappointing for me..

Not necessarily Mass Effect. A WRPG isn't limited to Sci Fi in outer space.
I mentioned that because out of all the genres, Sony is missing a game in that genre. They've got most genres covered except that one.

Just saying,ME2 is one of the greatest games this generation,and its a WRPG console exclusive for the 360.
PS3 needs an EPIC WRPG exclusive as well.
