Forums - Nintendo - Wii is a virus developer explains his comments

If Wii Fit is the main thing for people then it's not a toy it's a exercise device.
Anyways Wii is a toy. but so are the other two.

I guess he decided that putting his foot in his mouth wasn't enough. He had to go and swallow his whole leg.

I think he should have excluded sports games, GTA, Gran Turismo, Halo and many other games too.... I am certain there have been many non-Wii consoles bought on impulse due to playing some games at a party or friends house (that's why I originally bought a Megadrive)

Ignoring that though, what exactly is wrong with buying a console based on experiencing at a friends as opposed to buying it based on advertising?

He just made things worse.

Consoles were always meant to be toys. The best consoles were toys and there have been no truly great console that has tried to be more than a toy. (There I said it)

And being a DVD player is not being above a toy.

indeed

I LOVE ICELAND!

In one regard I don't see Wii Sports as being significantly different from a game like GTA. I have multiple friends who bought PS2/PS3 just to play GTA and the yearly iterations of FIFA, but rarely game and rarely extend their gaming beyond this fairly narrow scope. These guys are, by any reasonable definition of the expression, casual gamers. The difference between GTA and Wii Sports is that GTA also seems to be more acceptable to hardcore gamers than Wii Sports.

I really think people overstate the number and importance of casual/infrequent/new, or whatever you'd like to call them, gamers on the Wii. Sure they are there, sure they mightn't have bought a Wii if it weren't for Wii Fit but I don't think they are very different from the people who bought a PS2 several years ago because of Guitar Hero, DDR or similar games. The Wii may have extended the market even further but I don't think a huge proportion of Wii gamers are total newcomers that purchase a Wii in a flurry of faddish excitement, but then rarely game once the novelty has worn off.

If this were the case then you would expect the Wii's attach rate to be significantly lower than the other current generation systems or even systems from previous generations and it just isn't.

That's the key. They pretend it is, and refuse to accept evidence otherwise, like when joystiq twice spun the NPD report showing third party sales were higher on the Wii.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It takes a great skill to make your damage control sound worse than your original damage.

Great skill...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Did he get Wii from some strange girl the other night?

I think he picked up a girl the other night and when they got to his bedroom he realised she had a Wii instead of a pxxxy
