Silver followed by Blue. It's not just because HG/SS are close to release, I always thought the rivalry with Silver (or ??? as I called him...) was the most interesting.

You can't really call May/Brendan rivals. They give up about 3/4 of the way through the game dont they?

Seriously the best rival ever! But I liked Silver as well, though in those games Red was the toughest and could stand to be your real rival.

I picked Silver for obvious reasons. He had a mission to disband Team Rocket despite his dad being the boss of the organization, as Silver thought that the idea of his organization was stupid and no one could compare that measily team with what Giovanni really was as a Trainer.

How can you go against the original, Gary Oak. What a badass. My Arcanine vs his were just epic battles.

Gary is still my favorite character in Pokemon, counting anime and videogames. He has the mentality I always liked, someone who cares about having the best Pokemon and not settling for anything but a win, but without being "evil". Therefore, Blue.
