No. America is not Holland mmmkay. I am personally against favoring the activity of non-hackers and whiskey tango foxtrots who can't seem to make it in life so they resort to selling weed. If it was legalized a heck of a lot of people would be out of work and recalled if deep-cover in an anti-drug op. In the end, the status-quo should remain and the hippie potheads can pack their gear and relocate if they think America is bad b/c "pot should be legal man."

My 2c.

You talk about the constitution a lot. Explain to me where in the constitution it says doing something that will just screw you up, should be illegal. In a free country, you should be given the freedom to do really stupid things.

Another thing that makes me mad about the subject is that because the drug is a class 1 restricted drug in the USA (with the likes of herion, meth amphetamine, lsd and extacy)/MDMA). Research is hardly ever funded to actually look at what medical benifits might actually be. Research is also severly restricted in term of the short termn and long term effects of actually using the drug itself.
Other countries are making up somewhat for the US's failed policies, yet anytime you inhibit research in the US your essentially inhibiting the country itself, and the rest of world moves ahead. This is similar to stem cell research in my opinion, but I do not want to get off topic.

Yes I think it should be sold just like cigarettes. And the legal age should be the same as for alcohol. Of course laws will have to be put into place to do with "driving while high" and other future problems.

Oh and on a completely separate note, anyone who says smoking weed has no harmful effects is an idiot and/or in denial. I think I've posted in a previous thread some of the effects of smoking/consuming weed so I'm not going to do it again. Just look on any health site and they'll tell you all the effects like lung damage/disease and brain damage for starters.

I'm only in favour of legalizing it because I think that legalizing it will make it less of a "cool" thing to do. Also I'm in favour of making money and there's legal money to be had in marijuana sale.

The Framers didn't sit around in Philly with the munches.

@Montana I am talking about potheads and future productivity.  Non hackers (can't cut it) WTFs (White Trash F*^#*&@s in phonetics)

Not that I disagree with your post but ...

I'm not sure that some of the effects people associate with legalizing (certain) drugs will actually exist. The one I constantly hear is on increased tax revenue, but when you consider that in the USA the proceeds of crime can (and are) seized and this amounts to tens of billions of dollars a year from drug crimes I’m not sure that legal drug use will translate into higher tax revenues.

The tax revenues should come to local governments also not just the federal government. Cities and States need the revenue as well.

Wrong. Our founding fathers used drugs. The grew and consumed cannabis.

Does weed really give you a bad case of the munchies?

Yes.  It makes a lot of people fat because they will seriously just eat and eat and eat whenever they smoke weed.

Yes Marijuana should be legal. As the system is set up now, criminals who take the risk to run the grow ups and the dealers are making an absolute fortune off of growing and selling pot. I love it how some people think we should raise penalties like it would discourage this behavior. Most involved in the drug trade wouldn't really be opposed to bigger penalties for growing/dealing as it would inevitably put some of their competition behind bars and raise the price they can get for their product.

Anyone who says Marijuana should remain illegal because of health risks / unknown side effects needs to wake up that being a health risk isn't a good enough reason by itself to keep it illegal. Look at junk food and obesity rates. Surely there is nothing that is more detrimental to the health of Americans than poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyles and the well-documented health problems that ensue. I doubt anyone here thinks that junk food or the entire culture that allowed obesity to keep growing should be outlawed or fundamentally changed. I'm sure most would chalk it up to personal choice and willpower. Why can't we take the same attitude for Marijuana? I see it as something that adults should be able to use freely and take responsibility for any problems that arise from its use.

But it's such a pain trying to play Demon's Souls with you when you're high!
