Forums - Sony - DO NOT TURN ON YOUR FAT PS3 - date bug is majorly screwing up systems

We all know Sony isn't going to fix this, they want all of us to upgrade into ps3 slims
I am afraid I won't live trough this day, because Sony knows I know the truth and they probably sent their gaming ninjas after me, but I hope I wont die in vain. To all Ps3 fat owners DO NOT BUY A NEW PS3 BECAUSE OF THIS , do not contribute into Sony's scheme to take over the world

Take off your tinfoil hat and relax.  This is not some grand conspiracy.  Bugs like this happen in the software world.  Just like the Zune, it'll probably resolve itself.  If not, there is already a manual fix (CMOS battery) and that points to the ability for Sony to release a patch that does the same thing (resets the CMOS clock).

I also feel bad for all the PS3 users who don't have online and got this bug. Their going to have to buy a new PS3.

No, no they won't.  At worst, they'll have to reset their CMOS clock.  At best, they'll have to do nothing and at midnight GMT the problem will go away.  In the middle, they could download a firmware update/CMOS reset patch on their PC and copy it to their PS3 from a memory card or USB drive.  Why do you think Sony included the ability to update firmware from a local storage unit?  FOR PEOPLE WITH NO INTERNET.

How can we get a patch if the " Internal Clock " blocks you from signing in PSN ?

firmware updates don't require you to be signed in?

So we can just update if our PS3 is connected to the internet ?

well im using a slim so i have no problems, but I logged out of PSN, and tried to get an update which said there are none available at this time...

You don't have to be signed into the PSN to get a firmware update.  If this were the case, how would people with no PSN account update their firmware?  Try it yourself - go to System Update on your XMB and do it via Internet.  It'll connect just fine and tell you that you already have the latest.

The only problem is if someone actually doesn't have internet.

Step 1 : go to XMB

Step 2 : go to System Update

Step 3 : notice that "Internet" is NOT the only option

First of all: who the hell doesn't have Internet?

Even without a connection at home, you could always go to an Internet café, download the patch, put it on a USB key and then update your PS3 from it.

I know you can do it via a device, but if you don't have a device... or something, then it is a problem.

ANyway, I'm sure it will fix itself by 00:00 GMT anyway.
