Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How do you feel about the (radical) changes in Metroid:Other M?

Won't know it until I play it. What is kind of meh, is that apparently we are not going to look for upgrades, and the health/missile automatic fill....

Let's see what happens at the end. Still, I so want to play this :3

We still look for upgrades, at least - missile and health upgrades are confirmed. They were in the demo.

I absolutely won't say the game is bad or that I hate the changes, because I haven't played it yet.

That said, I am a lot more skeptical now than I was a week ago.

Demotruk I also want to make it clear that I'm not in support of more cutscenes, either. I think that Metroid Prime's system, whereby one has to actively seek out the story and initiate it for oneself, is the best storytelling method possibly for any series in medium. It's pretty much ideal for Metroid! I acknowledge that wholeheartedly.

I just won't stand in judgement of the game yet.

It sounds strange, but so did turning a sidescrolling exploration game into an FPS. I trust Nintendo.

Adding up the main cut scenes (which are on youtube), the dialogs with Adam and the elevator scenes, there's ~18 minutes worth of cutscenes in Fusion. I'm not including the SA-X moments because in all of those you are still in control and in some you can take different approaches to escaping (you can wait for her to walk on or you can run by her). That's a lot more than I thought it would be, I was guessing around 10 minutes total, it's been a long time since I played and 18 minutes is tonnes for a GBA game.

Still though, I wouldn't be surprised if M:OM had well more than an hour, probably more than 2 hours worth of cut scenes.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

a lot of people is so quick to jump to conclussions is sad, specially when they half hear the info, which is incomplete in itself. Its not even a preview, its a demo teaser.
That said, many franchises of more mature games have evolved into more cinematic experiences in the last 20 years, they couldnt really grow without the cinematic flair, and they grew into much better selling popular franchises, from Doom to Metal Gear. This is nintendo`s closest franchise to that.I think MG4 has more acting than MG1, MG2, MG solid and Mg 2 COMBINED.That didnt affect it getting the highest ranking the series ever had. Why cant samus have a rich story we dont have to guess everytime by optional scans(prime), when theres this potential epic space opera possibility right here? You can have a great game AND an epic story to both, without each interfering with the other.
No change seems negative to me.

I read the IGN article that Matt C. wrote and he said there is exploration in the game.

i think we can now agree after some discussion that other m needs a sex scene

Personally, I don't want a sex scene.

I loved what I have seen so far. also, there are many people considering what we got in the Prime series as "what Metroid should be", and I don't really agree with that.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Well, there's other non-interactive parts, too, like how Adam will update you as to your mission every once in a while - but okay, we'll take it as 18 minutes. In order to top that, Other M would need three hours of cutscenes. That's.... that may be more than every other Nintendo game this generation combined, including Galaxy's storybook, but I can't be sure.

Anyway

I take it you no longer want to make the bet? Would you like to amend it to two hours?
