Weren't those big games announced in E3 09?

That's the whole problem. It can't be bigger than the event at which these things were announced in the first place.

Not bigger, but today was huge and glorious.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think it was almost as good as last year, if not slight less......but 08 was a negative. So really you might consider it bigger.

In terms of having 'new' content, it didn't have any big shock factor compared to previous E3 events. However, the last 2 E3 events didn't really do that either, aside from Metroid Other M being announced.

However, in terms of full media blowout and content, this does blow previous E3s out of the water. Pretty much ever since 2006, Nintendo has been pretty much set in a formula of 'show off some new games, Iwata wags his finger at the industry, show off one innovating feature, end E3'. The old Nintendo that surprised us with something that blew us away, such as the reveal of Wind Waker or the DS and Wii, are gone. Now they're playing it safe and choosing to release their big announcements in 'Nintendo Conferences' or media events like this.

Pretty much, with everything they showed off in this event, they have little left they can show off at E3 this year short of new games, a new DS, or Zelda/Kirby Wii.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

No, it hadn't NSMBW Wii. And who said 2009 E3 was bad?

Above: still the best game of the year.

i say it was better even though metroid and galaxy 2 was the same announcements at E3 09, but we got more info screenshots and trailers so i say yes it is because of that

if galaxy 2 and metroid other m is not an holiday release what is? Zelda probably.. maybe we will get something huge at E3 this year :)

I do think so. We got new trailer for Galaxy, which is simply awesome, screenshots, release date for all their upcoming Q1/Q2 titles, Metroid Other M pics, Sin and Punishment 2, Monster Hunter 3, Dragon Quest IX being published by Ninty, DSI XL, Wii Ware

I do understand the "surprise" factor was mostly absent, but I enjoyed this event more than E3 2009, and I didn't expect to get the release dates (and also, so close) of SMG2 and MoM. So yes, better than 08 of course, better than 09, likely. Combined, I would say yes. SMG2 just blew my mind away with all the gameplay surprises it brought.

It was like getting a wedding ring of core commitment, with basically nothing from the games we weren't so interested in.

Yes, in terms of release dates its a gold medal.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

No, E3 09 had one of the biggest games of all time be announced, NSMB Wii, all this had were some moderate leftovers
