360: Swapping discs
PS3: Forced Instalations
seems to me they all have their ups and downs
Blatant trolling considering this is in the Microsoft forum and it's not even clever or amusing.
It is a problem for Developers
But for 360 owners its not a problem, Swapping disks only takes a few second
microsoft STOP making Marcos sad, Marcos just needs blu ray on xbox, with just little payment of 5 billion to sony for blu ray rights will make 50 million marcos happy for 4 years, your help is needed.

Agreed, DVD is too small, BR is too slow.
Both MS and Sony will probably use faster BR in their next consoles hopefully.

@xen i always do on titles i feel benefit from it, the prob was if you have game like fable2 it hammers your drive like crazy and the copy i had contained light scratches on it, it wouldnt go into next area, load screen froze even with install it got stuck at 44%, but after dvd de-scratch it works fine.
my halo 3 copy now also works fine after cleaning. so its deffo a problem predominantly if you get a preowned copy
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

I mean there are tons of games that require a install on the PS3, because of BluRay. Look at Bioshock 2. 4-5 GB install, because BluRay is too slow. So it is not like BluRay, the way it is integrated in the PS3 now, is the best thing ever. Both formats have their pros and cons this gen. Let's see what the future will bring up. |
Yeah everyone seems to be calling for the 360 to use Blu-Ray. I didn't see the need then (if the 360 had Blu-Ray, it would be almost as expensive as a PS3) and I still don't see the need. Not until the Next Box. What would be the point of releasing an external Blu-Ray drive add-on (which would look rediculous. Sega CD/32X all over again) for the 360 if some Blu-Ray games require hard drive installs anyway? The best thing for the 360 would be to start requiring installs for certain games (ie. Lost Planet 2) and add in a 20 GB HDD to the Arcade sku at no extra charge and then put the 20 GB hard drive add-on back in stores but at a reasonable price this time (last time it was like $80, what a joke) so that existing Core and Arcade owners can buy it. On Newegg, the cheapest laptop hard drive available is $40 and that's a 80 GB drive. So a 20 GB HDD should definitely be less than that (even after adding the 360 HDD shell).
Anyone demanding Blu-Ray on the 360, just stop and think how rediculously bloated the 360 would look with an external Blu-Ray add-on. The 6 pound power brick (almost as heavy as the console itself) is quite comical to begin with.
If it ever gets to the point that third-party devs will threaten to leave the 360 due to DVD space limitations (which isn't the case. Capcom would rather cut out content and then sell you the DLC than abandon the huge fanbase they have on the 360), Microsoft can introduce the Next Box. But we aren't at that point.

And I personally dont believe bluray will ever have the effect that dvd or cd had. There are too many competing options for movies and games for it to be a must have for people like dvd was. I personaly will probably never have a bluray device unless its a ps3 which I would buy for their exclusive games and nothing else. While I do agree it would be nice to have more disc space to not have to disc swap, it isn't a big deal to me. |
+1
I fully agree. Having to swamp discs happens so rarely that it's a non-issue when deciding games for me. We get excellent games with excellent sound and excellent graphics on a DVD. Also there are DVD's out there that are more advanced than dual-layer that use the same read lasers. Those discs can hold more capacity, it's only a matter of time until they are more relevant.
