Forums - Gaming Discussion - Multiple Disc Argument - It just doesn’t work for anyone.

"Snake, time to change the disc...oh wait, we're not in '98 anymore..."

^_^ just teasing guys. Changing discs is not "that" big of a deal, it's just that having everything on a single disc and still have room for more shows that technology 'broke yet again another seal' (Supernatural style).

I was playing Mass Effect2 and I have concluded its a garbage game because I had to change a disc twice.... ridiculous!! it took me about 20 seconds each time...

I also think food, drink, toilets breaks, answering the phone, answering the door are situations "that just dont work for anyone"!!! those sometimes take minutes... dragging me off my whining body off my fat arse and away from my controller... damaging the experience of the game.

And forget trying to watch a disc based movie or playing through different games concurrently... they also require a disc swap and those "just dont work for anyone" any more!!

some people here are like cartman in that south park WoW episode.  BATHROOM, BATHROOM

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Agreed.
No, why just the consoles. I watch tv as well so I demand the tvs have them.

The problem comes with installing the discs, but that is just a minor pain. Nobody is saying it is a bad game because of the disc changes, but it would be preferable to not have to bother with it

this is retarded... who cares if you have multipul disc as long as the game is good

@munkeh

why is disc changing any dfferent to any other distraction....? do you take a piss when you game? do you eat? do you drink? do you answer the phone? do you sometimes change the disc to watch a movie? do you change the disc to play a different game? do you... etc etc etc etc etc.

its just an opportunity to have a dig at a console... it has nothing to do with ideas such as immersion in the gaming experience and the inconvenience of the swap... just a dig....

I take a piss during loading scenes! And no eating near my consoles, I have water within arms reach, I don't really answer the phone, I only really play 1 disc at a time. My whole set up is designed to encourage minimal movement. The thing is with Mass Effect 2 is that the loading times are quite long, and they can be minimized by installing, and the noise of the old Xboxes is so annoying that install really hleps. And as I have a Pro, I can only install 1 disc at a time, so that is an added pain

But as I said, it doesn't hurt a brilliant game, but if it came out on PS3 at the same time, I would have got it on PS3 for that reason alone

I swap DVDs every hour, because I play a lot of different games.
So why the hell should I care if I need to swap 1 more disc ?

Furthermore I do the same on my PS3.
Why do we use obsolete technologies such as Blu-Ray, when we could just have them all pre-installed on our PS3 when we buy them ?

See how stupid that sounds ?

I like big free roaming games, so disc swapping is bad for me. Obviously multiple disc doesn't automatically mean disc swapping, if there is the option to install on HDD and just keep only one disc in the drive, it's fine for me. The same if only one disc is needed for each game mode.

The moment people start bitching about being "forced" to switch discs of any game is the sign that those people need a good whack on the head.

We've reached a certain level of absurdity in behavioral patterns among gamers, especially the younger ones. How can you even try to convince anyone with a straight face that a game where you have one disc is better against the same game that's on multiple discs? 2 Just because you've become a sad lazy bum and you feel that you can't be bothered? How is this even serious?

@ OP
Yeah it's 2010, your point? we've had games on multiple cd's , we've had games on multiple dvds and you can be sure as hell that we're going to see games on multiple blu ray discs when all has been said and done, so don't go preaching about some misunderstood meaning of convenience. Especially when the amount of time the people might decide to spend installing ff 13 on the ps3 will end up being greater than switching dvds on the xbox.

Did you play star ocean the last hope? Im not lazy but switching the disc each 5 minutes during 2 hours was pretty lame and annoying (I was doing the quest where you have to boost the level of the bunny to win the races and items). I play game to relax because I have a stressing job. Once that said, I have no problem switching a disc 2 or 3 even 4-5 times in a whole playthrough, if its what you meant. This gen I definitly see a problem with RPGs being multi-disc, the in-game asset takes more and more room as oppose to CGi. Hell Star ocean or lost odyssey wasnt even long RPGs to begin with...

Think about it, Blu Ray barely made it into the PS3 because it was such a new tech (wasn't it even one reason for the delay?).

The PC guys in general don't have Blu ray players in their comps yet, despite them costing only $50. There is not a single PC excslusive game that is released on Blu ray, nor is there any on the horizon. It's all DVD on PC.

What I'm trying to say is that DVD in this generation is default. Blu-ray is just a bonus.

PC, 1st thing is of course DD, 2nd is the amount of post processing power a gaming PC has, 3rd of course is PCs don't run so well without HDD, blu-ray on PC would only be for MPC and not required for MPC if you have a PS3 on the side. Of course, if you were able to pirate PS3 games, the story would be totally different.
