The characters can get annoying at times, but the gameplay and music are both solid and even though the story is your standard "kids trying to save the world," some aspects of the story and world were surprisingly original. If you liked Dragon Quest IV, you'll probably love V. In my opinion, it easily has the best narrative in the entire series. I would also try a Shin Megami Tensei game if you're looking for a good plot and great writing. Maybe Strange Journey (March 23) would be a good place to start. |
I own V but haven't beaten it yet.
I own Persona 4 but stopped about six hours in. I guess I should pick it back up sometime but Lord that game is slow

You might like the main series or the DDS games better than the Persona games. They're much heavier on the gameplay side without stuffing the story down your throat. I love them all, but they each have different appeal.
Great game, but I thought the story was kinda........cheesy. But I enjoyed the battle system very much. I would give the game a solid 8.6/10.
I actually might replay the game again.
Uematsu's final boss themes has always been special.

Only RPG that I ever stopped playing. Honestly I think it sucks and is a piece of atrocious garbage with good graphics. I know that sounds mean, but I seriously hated it.
Hmm, it's true that LO is 'FF quality' game, though I tend not to like FF games that much so that's not a big compliment in my eyes.
The game srcipt is at least better than usual in games of the genre. But what I realised much later after I've finished the game, the most interesting part, 'the dreams', actually was written by experienced and unknown to me writer, Kiyoshi Shigematsu. Her 'dreams' made up for the rest part of the game that I found exhausting as well, but mostly due to gameplay. Really, I should have just read some of her works instead, that would have saved my time.
I guess, I'm not that gentle kind of a person and games do not impress me that much =)

I'm not a big Suikoden fan but I would definitely try a game like that I played 5 only, didn't get far about 5 hours in I felt the game was too slow and the Prince was way too annoying.
@Wagram you beast =P I can name plenty of RPGs I stopped playing, Wild Arms, Saga Frontier, FF9, Enchanted Arms, Shadow Hearts ><
Battle system is the meat of (Tactical) RPG games.
Unfortunately, a lot of suffer from lack of polish, where the beginning starts out good and then by the end, you're trapped in grinding to beat the last boss/part or over-leveled.
Tactical RPG are the hardest to balance that, IMO.
Give Glory of Heracles a try if you can, I am 17 hours in and probably half way through the game, or possibly less.
I did not read any reviews on it to know how long the game is, maybe I should. It's been giving me lack of sleep.
To answer your OP question, no. Avoid at all costs.
Blue Dragon is a bad game.
Keep in mind that I loved Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia to death.
The wife and me are like sixty hours into Tales of Vesperia (sixty because she approaches the gam very slowly). It is very silly, as Tales games are wont to be
