What has Settlers to do with Civilization ?
They're not even in the same sub genre.

Civ IV was my first but I already love the series despite not playing any other game in the series yet. The game's also the only game ever that's got me terribly hooked. I just can't get enough. That said, Civ V is easily my most awaited game this year.
@nordlead: Aren't both versions essentially identical? At least that's what I'd expect, with the possible exception of the European version having more languages (but definitely including English as well). Though I must say, I've never tried what you describe. Should work but I don't know if it actually will.

well, that is what I would think, but I don't feel like wasting $5 to find out and I don't want to create an account on civfanatic.com (or whatever website it is with all the mods).
The reason I'm concerned is that PS3 games are region locked for DLC even if they are identical games across the regions. So I have the UK version of LBP and I'd have to download the PAL DLC if I wanted any of them.

I'd imagine PC games don't have this legion locked BS. I know I have bought legal games from Europe and never had any problems installing it on any PC. The only imaginable problem that I can think of would be that there is some mistake with the languages of the game, but that's about it. Should work flawlessly. I know for a fact it won't be because if region locks, since PC hardware outside of the DVD, but only for movies, doesn't have any region markings.

Can I buy the UK import version of an expansion pack and have it work on the US version of the game? I ask because I can get it for $5 compared to $15 for the US version. |
I would say no. I'm betting there is a region check of some sort.

That's false. PCs don't have region markings.

Wouldn't that depend your DVD drive and its software?

I know the PC has no region checking (other than DVD drive for movies), but the quesiton is does Civ have any region checking? I'm guessing no too (since mod's can work anywhere). I'd just hate to waste $5 when I could have bought a perfectly good VC game with the money.

As I said, the only problem could arise would be from the languages not being compatible or something. I've used games from other continents easily on my PC before.
@superchunk
That's only for when watching movies.
