Forums - Gaming - Ghostbusters announced, two different versions in production

It's a shame the Wii isn't getting it's own Ghostbusters game. The Wiimtoe would be awesome with catching ghosts.

Heh maybe Luigis Mansion will get a sequel and do the ghost busters game right.

I can't imagine a Ghostbusters game going anywhere but to a Playstation. Columbia Pictures (who gave us Ghostbusters) is owned by Sony.

Spiderman was made by Columbia, and not a sony exclusive

@ Twestern, any problems with the PS3, I assume it will be delayed at some point

It's cool to have a developer around, especially one working on an old school IP like Ghostbusters. Congrats, Twesterm.

Things we (and by we, I mean ... me) would like to know:

1. Co-op? 2-4 players?
2. Proton packs - Unlimited or have to be charged?
3. Please have traps
4. Voice overs from the original actors?
5. Drive the wagon?

Do keep us informed!

Original actors doing the voice overs are confirmed. Ernie Hudson (Winston) interview. Yes, that includes the elusive Bill Murray

The rest I imagine is still under NDA.

Bill Murray... WIN.

First off, please understand I cannot say anything new.  I can only really talk about what's already there but more information will come; we still have nearly a year.

  1.  Multiplayer is still in the works and it is planned.  The Wii/PS2 versions will focus mainly on multiplayer.
  2. Unlimited but they can overheat.
  3. Yes.
  4. Every voice in the game is going to be from the original actor and all four Ghostbusters are present (except new characters of course).
  5. Ecto1 isn't currently drivable but we haven't forgotten about it.

Sony is a large company and it isn't all about the PS3.  The movie division doesn't have anything to do with the gaming division and there is without a doubt going to be versions other than the PS3 version.

One of the things we showed off to Game Informer was our in house engine, the Infernal Engine.  It was originally made for the PS2 so it was easy to make it for the PS3.  After making it for the PS3 it was easy to adapt it to the 360, Wii, and whatever else we wanted.  They PS3 and 360 both run great and one runs just as well as the other.

One of the demos shown was one where cars were thrown into the levels ontop of a large amount of tables and chairs that all splintered into smaller physics objects that were all simming and then bodies were dropped on top of that.  It's fun to note that bodies didn't have the usual twitching that games like Halo 3 and Bioshock have-- ours actually simulated correctly.  ^^ The engine can do more than 1000 objects along with lighting, AI, effects, and everything else without taking a hit in framerate for the PS3 and 360.

The Wii is getting its own version...kind of.  The PS2 version and the Wii version will be the same game but my understanding is that it's being made for the Wii first (kind of like Rayman Raving Rabbids).  As I said, I'm not close to the Wii version but I have seen it and it's looking good.

Here's a summary of the GI article that someone else posted (source NeoGaf)

Ecto 1 is back, it looks like the one from GB2, with the yellow/black warning stripes, but with less crap on top and it's using the original logo, not the GB2 logo.

- Release is for October 2008.
- You play as the 5th member of the team
- It takes place in 1991 and the city has agreed to fund you but they hire Peck to watch over you to make sure you're not just pulling their strings.
- After you are hired, a new evil hits New York and ghosts start appearing everywhere
- The first mission is to hunt down Slimer in the hotel from the 1st movie, it trains you how to use the proton pack and trap.
- While you play, you hear chatter from the other 4 members over your radio or in person when they're around you.
- The environments are destructible, but don't worry about bill as now that you're funded by the city, they cover the damage.
- You press the d-pad to deploy the trap
- There are different proton beams you can use and some of them act like a fishing mechanic, a pull and tug lasso effect.
- Terminal Reality has developed their own engine to handle the physics, they showed off a demo where they dropped hundreds of ragdoll bodies, boxes, and cars and they all reacted perfectly with no framerate hits.
- They will be able to simulate up to 1,000 objects at once with no framerate hit.
- The entire demo was done on the PS3 to show that they're not having trouble developing for it.
- There is a Slime Gun that shoots out a trail of green slime and you can anchor things to each end of the strand, you can tether ghosts to walls using this for easier trapping.
- One of the levels takes you back to the library from GB1 to re-visit that librarian ghost, or as Ray refers to it as, "the one that got away".
- The Elmer Bernstein score is in tact and while no other songs were confirmed, they have to imagine Ray Parker Jr's song will be included.
- Your AI teammates will perform all sorts of actions without you having to tell them and they can save you by shooting ghosts and deploying traps.
- They said they wanted to keep you as a 5th member of the team so you can hear all the interaction between the other 4 guys with the dialog that Akyroyd and Ramis are writing.
- They want the game to be, "fun, funny, or scary" at all times. In an average hallway, for example, ghosts could smash through a window, pop out from behind a vending machine, or come down from the ceiling.
- Your main hub is of course the Firehouse and you're free to walk around and talk to Janine, play with Egon's new gadgets, perform scientific experiments, etc. And YES you can slide down the firepole!!!!
- The Stay Puft battle is actually EARLY in the game as there's a big reveal bigger evil at play.

My god this sounds bad ... this is one game that Im happy that its not comming to my precious :P

Uh ... joke post? If not, -10 respect points, doubly so since it's specifically not coming to your platform of choice

Edit: I see your age in your profile, and I suppose that's about the only explanation needed. Both movies came out before you were born, and you probably never watched the cartoon either.
