This ad has been running here in the Netherlands for some time now along with a more gameplay orientated advert. Brilliant ad with a brilliant campaign behind it, it even gets attention on the internet and let's be honest, which tv ad gets a ton off attention these days?
Like it or don't, it at least gets attention and that's what advertising is for. The PS2 became huge because of those weird commercials. You might even argue that this commercial is negative advertising for the system, but even negative adverts give boosts to sales. Black and superior white adverts for PSP anyone?

Everything gets attention on the internet.
In fact, I could name some very offensive things that get attention on the internet. That doesn't make them good.

Yeah, I could name some very offensive things that get attention on the internet too, but it's been a while since I've seen a government funded ad encouriging me to rape the girl next door.
Seriously, you are pulling a small bit out of context here. This is just a European ad which may seem a bit weird to people from other continents, but we see weirder ad's around here. The North american ad is completely different and more in focus with that market. This ad just gets some more attention because it stands out from the rest. I haven't seen any discussions about the latest 360 commercial for that matter.
Creativity and originality stands out in the extremely predictable tv commercials market and just gets that extra bit of coverage. Some people like it, some don't. A principle that goes for tons of products and commercials. I don't like that 360 ad I reffered too, but it wont mean I don't like the 360. It's just an ad.

I actually like European ads more...they're smarter? Or at least they're more abstract, which makes them more interesting to watch. I don't like the simple "here is game, here is price, go buy" ads we get in the US.
The only thing I hate is when Europeans say "You don't understand because you're stupid Americans" and such.
No, we don't understand because your culture is different and you've got different senses of humor and entertainment. For instance, it bugs me when someone says the UK Office is smarter than the US Office. I've seen both shows, and both have good writing. Tons of jokes in the UK Office resort to dirty humor about cocks and such, just as tons of jokes in the US Office resort to Michael being a moron. Just get over it!

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I see, it's quite an condesending attitude some Europeans have towards Americans in general. I am not going to say we are smarter but we are more openminded, advertizing amongst tons of other examples underline my statement. Is it better?, who am I to judge...
Saying you don't understand for being stupid Americans is pointless and a stance I personally would never take. If only because it would be pointless to try and explain. Trying to convince someone of a concept they aren't smart enough for to understand is ridiculous although most religions are based upon that principle or use it to avoid difficult questions.

I liked it, but then I also think the UK Office was superior to the American knock-off (because I'm way more cultured and sophisticated than BenKenobi88).
But there's still a problem: The PS3's situation is too desperate to be resorting to such abstract commercials. If this was a Wii commercial, it would be fine. I think the recent American PS3 commercial does a better job in terms of selling the product.
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
