That's weird, I'm running Win7 and I run anything from Prince of Persia to Mass Effect 2 no problems.

Dragon Age runs fine, but older stuff even UT 2004 can do crazy things to my comp, like making the whole screen go pixel nuts. I'll be getting a new comp in the summer though.

I'd say it's dying--check out the sales of Modern Warfare 2 PC vs the PS3 and 360 versions.

not that I want MW2 to be successful on PC (I hope MW2 PC failed completely), but where can we find the figures of the PC version? Unless Activision releases some figures, anyone that says the PC version was outsold by the PS360's is trolling.

Sorry to disappoint you, but... http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5826

"VGChartz preliminary day one figures puts the sales to date (including the midnight launches) at over 7 million copies worldwide across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Around 55% of sales are on Xbox 360, 33% on PS3 and the remaining 12% on PC."

Unless the sales patterns have changed dramatically, the PS3 version has roughly tripled the PC version, and that's to say nothing of the 360 version.  And this is a franchise that got its start (and became famous) on the PC.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

A better question is, are you really using the sales of one of the shittiest and most hated PC games as an indicator? I couldn't cherry pick more even if I chose Lair to say that HD gaming is going down the shitter.

I don't think it's dying, but i think others are trying to kill it *couph* microsoft *couph*

Once they found out PC gamers wouldn't pay for LIVE I think they made the decision to just try and force them onto a system where they could.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I don't believe that's true. Can you link me this 400 dollar PC that has graphics on par with a 199 dollar Xbox 360?

Also, keep in mind, that even if it is technically as powerful as the Xbox 360, the games made for it are not optimized for the hardware, and thus, performance will be worse, at equal spec levels. I think you are far underestimating the dollar amount it costs to build a HD gaming worthy rig. I estimate about 900 bucks for something you wouldn't be embarassed to link on the internet, and something that wouldn't have obtained complete obsolescence last year, and something that wouldn't play a game that came out tomorrow at over 20 fps.

To top it all off, you would have to build it wouldn't you? How many console owners could do that, dya think? You think my 11 year old brother should go out and try to put together a 400 dollar gaming rig, so he could save 10 bucks per game, with little or no increase in graphics or MODERN library over a console?

Also, I can buy games used. I can buy console games for far cheaper than they usually are on steam if I buy them off ebay, or rent them. Can't do that one PC usually.

Also note that most people would probably want a store bought operating system, if they built a PC....

Not as cheap as advertised, imho.

It's not as expensive as some people try to make out either, but it certainly isn't for everyone. Consoles are. That's their selling point. Nell, from the movie Nell could have an Xbox 360 up and running in 10 minutes.

I put together a system quickly for $450 incl shipping, excl taxes after MIR excluding Windows (you're not expecting your 11 year old brother use Linux right?) and monitor and keyboard/mouse as these are basics that everyone needs pretty much if they run a desktop machine.

  • 2.9Ghz tricore
  • HD Radeon 5670 1GB
  • 500GB HDD
  • 2GB ram
  • Gigabyte motherboard
  • Antec Case + 380W PSU
  • DVD burner

Add $100 for Windows if you must.

Add $50 for keyboard/mouse etc if you must.

Its a solid and realistic computer and any kid would be pretty happy to use one.

But in the end its about who you're talking about. A savvy user will pretty much always pay less overall than had they bought a console. An enthusiast doesn't care, he'll pay $1000 and love every minute of it and the ignorant people who don't know will probably buy a Wii or Xbox 360 or PS3 or continue to play games on their laptop.

Btw how come you talk up the convenience of buying a console and yet play down the inconvenience of making dealings on Ebay etc? Steam is pretty simple. I got:

  • Stalker
  • Red Faction Guerilla
  • Saints Row 2
  • Titan Quest + expansions
  • Company of Heroes + Expansions
  • Dawn of war + expansions
  • Dawn of war 2
  • Stalker: Call of Pripyat
  • Mount and Blade

For $85 U.S.D. with about 12 mouse clicks and 5 minutes of effort. There were other games too but I can't be bothered listing them. I shit you not, Stalker COP DX11 is probably the best looking game out there at the moment. This is the DX10 path.

Tease.

It will die if there is no games that will be exciting, which won't happen

Is PC gaming dying? Absolutely not.

If anything, it's bigger than ever.

Sure, the FPS fanatics may opt for a PS3/360 over a PC these days, but that's hardly an indicator of the PC overall.

And many people may remember a lot of big games on PC's back in "the day." But you have to remember that PC's weren't really a common household appliance until the mid to late 90's, well into the modern console era. As the PC entered the mainstream, PC gaming thrived alongside consoles, and it continues to do well today. Strategy and MMO's hold their ground on PC, drawing millions of people. WoW and The Sims are some of the best selling games of all time. FPS, and perhaps other genres, may have shifted to consoles, but gaming overall is alive and well on PC.

As for me, I find myself gaming mainly on PC these days, as it is mainly PC games (strategy, MMO, rogue-like, etc) that appeal to me.

PC gaming is evolving past the old model. That's why it appears it's dying, because how the old console gaming style works. Console players judge by. Console players are essentially techinicly and business model wise 10 years behind.
