PC gaming is fine. Diablo III, Starcraft II or the Witcher II are great examples that this platform still gets quality exclusive support.
Plus most big 3rd party console games are released on the PC as well.

A lot of people are still playing games on their PC's, yes. Do publishers make a lot of money on PC gaming nowadays though? Nope.

Consoles have taken over the gaming torch from the PC some time ago. I'm pretty sure that will never change.

Do you realize all companies making console games, except Nintendo, are getting sodomized financially? Meanwhile you have companies like Valve, and Blizzard  on the PC which perform magnificently. WoW probably accounts for half of Activision-Blizzard's income period, not to mention all the other Blizzard games are making them. The PC single-handedly kept Activision on top last quarter and without it they would have been majorly fucked.

Furthermore, 2 weeks after L4D2 came out Valve themselves said they had sold over 2 million copies, since it's Valve I'm sure that includes digital sales. Big surprise, the 360 version was at only 900k at the time.

So if anything the PC is the only profitable and viable platform still out on the market today, not the consoles, unless you are Nintendo.

It won't die if it keeps up with its massive MMORPG's.

People have been saying PC gaming has been dying for years. It never been 'dying'. It just been going through stages, like console and handheld gaming as well. Back in the mid 90s, it was in a decline. And then around the turn of the century it saw an upswing with games like Diablo II, StarCraft, Half-Life, Fallout, Age of Empires II, Morrowind, etc.

Recently, people have just been touting the same 'gloom and doom' scenario for the PC because they think it hasn't been getting as many good games as Consoles. But if you look around, its still getting good games.  Frankly, some of the best games available for consoles such as XBOX 360 and PS3 are actually games made for PC, but ported to consoles.  And don't forget, the PC has some amazing games coming up soon, like Diablo III and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Not saying it will happen, but I wouldnt be surprised if D3 was on consoles. It wouldn't be too hard to turn it into a console game (unlike SC). And MMOs are releasing more and more on consoles as well. While I think shooters and MMOs are typically better on PC, that doesn't mean that publishers will view it the same way.

I believe both the developers for Diablo III and Star Wars: The Old Republic have stated the games are only going to be for PC.  I know 100% that BioWare made a statemet that STar Wars: The Old Republic was only going to be for PC.  As for Diablo III, I don't see them putting it on consoles, simply because they're coming out with a 'new form of Battle.net' and most likely want to keep it focused on PC.  Probably to combat piracy and hacking.  Trying to put games on consoles would just complicate coding and hacking prevention efforts.  Since Diablo III is probably going to sell anywhere from 6-15 million easy on just PC, I don't think they are worried about moving to consoles.

Plus, they've already announced Diablo III, like Starcraft II, is going to have multiple expansion packs.  Kind of hard to do for consoles (though not impossible).

Blizzard has said they have no plans to bring SC to consoles, since they feel RTS doesn't work well on consoles, they didn't say anything like that for D3. And I wasn't necessarily talking about TOR specifically, just MMOs in general. They could still easily work D3 for consoles, not that I think they will, but it's easily possible.

As for expansions, totally easy to do on consoles.

I'm really just saying it's all possible. I hope they don't do anything like that, but if they think they can increase their audience easily, and make money off of it, they'll do it eventually.

If Diablo 3 is controlled anything remotely like Diablo 2 I highly doubt they can easily port it without messing up how it's played. It will be kind of liek Dragon Age. While not bad of a game on the consoles. It was pathetic compared to the PC version. Also if the PC version was shitty like the console version, it sure as hell would not have sold so much on the PC at all.

No.
- PC always had and still has the most exclusive games
- RTS, point&click
- MMO, browser games
- indie games developing & publishing on your own without costs for development kits etc.
- PC still gets big multiplats (RE5, ME2, ACII etc.)
- Civilization 5 (some day )

I think that was supposed to be Civilization Revolution.

How dare you, sir! CivRev was a very good, but downgraded Civ version for console/handheld, definitely not Civ 5.

I think the only thing that's dying is the single-player games without a heavy online-multiplayer focus (more so PC), as they are the biggest victim of PC piracy and second-hand markets.

That's how I tried to rationalize Deus Ex: The Invisible War as well....
