Given the lower cost of entry and digital distribution, it will never die anytime soon. Also, given that PCs will always have more resources than consoles they will always get the more complicated games.

That said, it's market share may decline... much like radio has declined compared to TV, but has not gone away.

It is hard to find data for PC sales. There is not one company releasing sales numbers for the platform (like MS,Sony,Nintendo), they are not in the monthly NPD numbers, and are not tracked by this site. Digital distribution numbers are a huge portion of PC sales, but no one is releasing their numbers either.

PC gaming is definitely shifting. (Facebook/web games, fewer retail sales because of digital distribution, etc) But people will continue to game on any platform they own. So until PCs go away, PC gaming will not die.

Actually I think Steam is breathing new life into gaming. I buy all my PC including console multi platform games from steam, and currently PC is ahead of consoles graphically. I don't think it will over take consoles in per game sales anytime soon though.

Pc is my fave by quite a long way but seriously, all it gets nowadays are shit ports. If there was any sought of focus on pc, id have upgraded again by now but there doesnt seem a point in it atm.

A lot of people are still playing games on their PC's, yes. Do publishers make a lot of money on PC gaming nowadays though? Nope.

Consoles have taken over the gaming torch from the PC some time ago. I'm pretty sure that will never change.

PC gaming is still occuring, but piracy is very common practice. The only game that I heard do solid sales on PC was Dragon Age.

Left 4 Dead would like to have a word with you.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Actually if you look the latest EA financial report they made more money last year with PC than Wii or DS. Almost par with PS3.... I don't think it is dying. Some games still do decent numbers on PC.

Unless you're Activison-Blizzard, in which case one PC game alone (WoW) probably makes more profit than everything else combined.

Oh, and should I mention that most other publishers (i.e. the ones focusing on consoles) are actually losing money. Except Nintendo of course.

I have not heard the sales comparison verus the numbers sold on the xbox. So has Left4Dead sold more on PC than on the xbox? Dragon Age top selling platform is the PC (most likely due to the mod tools imho). I should have more clear that I was talking about the leading platform for a major game being the PC.
