Forums - Sony Discussion - Why Are Sony Letting Microsoft Bully Them Out Of Familiar Franchises?

simple answer Ms pays the big bucks to fund these games while sony gets the better version either at the same time or few months later for no cost. ff13 looks better on the ps3. mgs4 will never go to xbox 360. rising will look better on the ps3 from what kojima said he's all about innovation and out performing the competition so im a little positive sony/konami has something up their sleeves anent to rising. and crysis 2 will take full adavntage of the ps3's power. i got links to all my reference if anyone wants them.

please do, thanks in advance :)

Maybe because dev costs are too high for anyone but 1st party studios to only release their games on 1 platform. Im tired of everyone always saying M$ is money hatting everything most of the time its not true.

Long Live SHIO!

A huge reason for this is that SONY over the last fifteen years have bought a numbers of smaller studios to form 1st party and 1.5 party studios. They have a steady stream of exclusives tricking out every few months. The same isnt true about MS. Which is a kinda strange coz all the greats have had their own IP's and studio's( Ninty,Sega,SONY). Hence the need to "outsource" their own exclusives through these deals.

SONY is in a tight corner financially and isnt likely to let these things bother them. They havent really lost games altogether. Those titles have simply gone multiplat- which makes sense- a lot of these titles are HUGE IP's- DMC,Tekken,FF. 3rd place PS3 doesnt guarantee as much sales as 1st place PS2 did a few years ago.

Its really all about the money....

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

The real question is... who cares? None of the franchises are Sony franchises - they just happened to be on Sony consoles. As many others have said, unless you are looking to capitalize on the features of a specific system, there is NO REASON not go multiplatform.

Sony has more than enough 1st party exclusives to differentiate the PS3. So does Nintendo. Microsoft needs to catch up there, but they'll only do that IF they want to. As long as they deem it more profitable to buy exclusivity rather than bolster first party offerings, this is what we will have.

MS only LENT the money to rockstar, as soon as Rockstar paid of it is free, reason why the exclusivity is now over.

Metal gear rising is a spin-of, will not be a big of deal, by the time it launches no one will care and Sony is right not to care. Hell, if you going to be excited be excited about Castlevania that is coming to ps3/360 by the hands of master Kojima, there is a multiplat to watch out.

Final Fantasy will be a disaster on the 360, I think Sony could care less since it secured exclusivity where was most important, japan. Most USA/europe fans of FF had already bought a ps3 in anticipation and most MS (halo/gears) fans could care less for another FF. The cost FF13 will be for Microsoft will be far more than any good it can do, SE really did only because MS made worth they while.

I say, screw 3rd parties, they will never leave the ps3 because costs for games are to high to produce for any potential market that is less than 60million. Keep games like heavy rain, last guardian, GOW3, GT5 coming cause that is what add value for the Sony brand.

Unless Rockstar really impress with Agent...

Yah you know what there upto, Killzone3, and Res 3 , and INfamous 2

Here I'll put it nicely. Those franchises aren't Sony's and there is no reason they should be exclsuively on Sony platforms. It is not Sony getting bullied by Microsoft. Sony made the decision early on to allow third parties the position to drive hardware sales. Sony's lack luster first party titles were not used as the pinnacle of the PlayStation brand. Why is it when you think PlayStation you think Final Fantasy and GrandTheftAuto while when you think Nintendo you think Mario and Zelda, or when you think Microsoft you think Halo.

Also just so we are clear Sony entered a long term agreement with SquareEnix to publish their titles exclusively for ten years. That agreement was paid for by Sony and only recently ended. Microsoft trying to get Final Fantasy and GrandTheftAuto titles on their consoles is no different. I mean we could argue that Nintendo let Sony bully them out of franchises like FinalFantasy. Fact is Sony has paid for the third party content in the past you can't picture them as so self righteous now!

In my opinion Sony should take the fifty million they saved on GTA and the millions their saving on Final Fantasy and use those funds to create their own IP's. Give us some new Sony franchises to buy build the Sony brand. If Nintendo proved anything its that third party support should always come second to first party strength.

If Sony's inhouse titles suck, then don't buy third party support improve your first party titles!

Link?

The three games you mentioned have never been Playstation exclusives throughout their entire life. In fact all three had their start on a Microsoft system.

The Metal Gear series started on the MSX and MSX2
GTA had its start on PC Windows.
Final Fantasy was remade for the MSX2 system in 1989.
