It's all a matter of personal preference, really. You can't say PC gaming is 'better' than console gaming, because what is better totally depends on personal preferences.

Personally, I despise most gaming experiences on PC.

Just curious, how come you despise it? I'm perfectly capable of figuring out how dislike or indifference comes into play, but despise would require a level of antagonism against the experiences that I cannot fathom how it could come to pass.

Well, perhaps despise would be a bit harsh, but I do not like it one bit, at all. It's mainly because of the controls. I cannot bring myself to play comfortably with a keyboard & mouse setup. Not in the least. I know a lot of people love it, but I honestly don't. Of course that doesn't apply to point-and-click games, but I'm generally not interested in those games. Also, the fact that you have to consider what kind of hardware you have when purchasing and playing games ticks me off, big time. I don't have to worry with that on consoles, it's just plug & play. I don't have to fiddle around with display options, settings, upgrading hardware, installing stuff and whatnot. Finally, I don't like to sit at a desk when playing games. Those are all just personal preferences, though. If others do like it, well good for them.

I love my PS3. It's quick and easy fun.
But console games will allways be kinda light and shallow. The really good, deeper, gaming experiences, for me, have allways been on a PC (that's a, lot of, comma's). No doubt about it.

I hope you don't play on the 360 or PS3 then :P

Yup, it's all personal opinion as I enjoy sitting on the couch playing a console game equally to sitting at my desk playing games on my PC. I've grown up doing both and I have no reason to despise doing either.

Like both;

PC's for

Flight Simulators;
Simulation Games;
RPGs;
Strategy;
Shooters (All kinds);

Consoles for

RPGs;
Racing;
Action Games;
Platformers;
Some Shooters;

I could think of 5 wayyyy better reasons console gaming is > PC gaming. The only valid point they had was (arguably) better controls and cheaper games (free since everyone pirates games on PC).

The older games argument is hard to go against. The only console that even makes a dent against that platform is the Wii, and even the Virtual Console doesn't fully stack up to what's available between Steam and GOG and D2D.

I can't really argue or support that point because I don't buy games on steam. The only PC game I've bought in several years is the Sims 3 and I got it at EB games.

Reason 5 is okay. I got such good deals on PC games in the last days, but console games also get insanely cheap after a short while. The difference is there but not so big.

Reason 4 is flawed. 1. I don't want to play The Sims 3 at all. 2. It is possible to play games with keyboard + mouse on the PS3. MS could release their own keyboard + mouse support. It should be no problem at all to play the games like Starcraft 2 on consoles next gen.

Reason 3 is also flawed. You don't need a GAMING PC to play classics. Every PC that was assembled in the past 10 years can do that.

As for Reason 2, I don't care at all about online gaming, but if Blizzard makes a new MMORPG and release it on consoles, this point will be obsolete.

Reason 1 is a gimmick. Admittely an interesting one, but as soon as the consoles will get 3D support in the next months, whis one is obsolete too.

Overall a pretty poor article that doesn't highlight the strengths of PC gaming at all.

If yu haven't already you should really try it out. There are over a thousand games on steam by now, so you are bound to find something you like. And the sales are spectacular. There are a couple of problems with steam (need to be online, subdcriptions and not purchases, regional pricing etc) but they are in my mind outweighed by the community services and the pricing.

There is only one reason needed: Starcraft 2!

I LOVE ICELAND!

there hasnt been a pc game that has kept my attention since starcraft.

sad but true.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.
