Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sonic Games are met with unfair bias

andremop said:
No, they're not good. Period. Sonic Unleashed was, for example, crap.

The truth is that Sonic games were never THAT good.
The character just succeeded in being one of the kids favorites back then, most for his attitude and speed and less for his actual games.

When this wow factor passed (including the infamou BLAAAAAST process), people are now judging his games the way they should back then - so so games - and not masterpieces or even great games.

This is wrong on so many levels.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Sega Genesis are phenomenal.  Excluding Mario (which of course is tops), there isn't a single platforming series that ever has been close to the old Sonic  games.

Sonic unleashed was.. in parts brilliant.. the day stages were beautiful to look at, fun to play and fast..not so much for the werehog stages which were in a word... ABYSMAL.

Sonic, like every other plat former is dependent on level design. Sonic 4 is a step in the right direction.. as would be unleashed 2.

Its not bias but ever since sonic adventure.. sonic lost the platformer crown.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

No

''Hadouken!''

Sonic Unleashed biggest flaw for me was the werehog stages but other than that I absolutely loved the daytime levels. The game was nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I'd actually say that the first Sonic-game wasn't very noteworthy, at least not after Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 came around. The second and third game were just ... Whoa.

Since noone else mentioned it,It is my duty to do so :P Apart from the gimmicks, mediocre controls and poor level design Sonic games have the most irritating voice acting ever.

I wouldn't say that the 1st Sonic game wasn't noteworthy.  It was great when it came out.

The thing is that 2 and 3 were even better.  Sonic 3 is actually one of my all time favorite games.

This.

Although I think Sonic showed great promise at first with both Sonic 1 and then Sonic 2.

Sonic 3 was half a game. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is no where near the improvement Sonic 2 was over Sonic 1.

Everything past this point was downhill, IMO.

Really? I didn't like the first Sonic at all.

Sonic 2 and 3 were the shiznit back in the day, though. Sonic 3 & Knuckles even moreso.
