The character just succeeded in being one of the kids favorites back then, most for his attitude and speed and less for his actual games.

When this wow factor passed (including the infamou BLAAAAAST process), people are now judging his games the way they should back then - so so games - and not masterpieces or even great games.

This is wrong on so many levels.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Sega Genesis are phenomenal.  Excluding Mario (which of course is tops), there isn't a single platforming series that ever has been close to the old Sonic  games. 

I'd actually say that the first Sonic-game wasn't very noteworthy, at least not after Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 came around. The second and third game were just ... Whoa.
