Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon needs a Serious Action Game

A pokemon MMO sounds great. I would buy that right away. I think it would be pretty popular. As for the live action part I'm not sure if everyone would like that. I know the it would be more like the anime but most fans are accustomed to it being turn-based.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think it's too early to develop an MMO. The technology is there, but few MMOs have been released in consoles (let's see how FFXIV will do). I think Pokémon needs a revolution in the battle system, which is too simple (maybe there's why people like it, but...), in a way similar when Effort first came in Ruby & Sapphire.

In fact, I think this training system needs new features too. Although I think it's a great mark on the series, Effort Training is too repetitive and maybe that's why people end up by using Pokésav and alikes.

Exploration could be different, too. I've always though of exploring gigantic cities by unlocking "areas", which would be selected at the entrance. Sounds interesting for me.

To keep the series at least changing a bit in a while, I don't mind new moves or abilites, I just don't want ANY new Pokémon created: Zoroark really resembles a Telefang monster (or, as we, know in the West, Pokémon Diamond & Jade).

It isn't pokemon without it being turn-based.

I don't think you should have direct control over your pokemon, but command then in real time (speed would be a more meaningful stat!). Sure you would be able to give a few more commands than in usual games, but still not be overly-specific. In a perfect world the pokemon would have a learning AI so that they'd get more than just metaphysical experience out of battles, and actually carry orders in a more effective way or know what to do when you don't give an order in time either because you can't decide, is getting an item, or it's a 2 on 2 fight or maybe a 'no orders given gym fight' or something. Also, cut the number of pokemon a bit and balance it well :P

Anyway, I'd like a real-time game on console, and there would still be room for TB ones on handheld.

I've though about that idea, commanding you pokemon in real time. Yeah that would be cool too. I mean as long as you can command your pokemon to do certain things like dodge (which would fail if someone used extreme speed, or mach punch) then I'm fine. But anyways, you guys like the idea huh. A live action pokemon mmo for Wii.

This should launch alongside wii's successor, I almost wholeheartedly agree with your notion and have been thinking along similar lines for a long timeand i have decided the wii can't achieve the scope that this game would need to achieve. It would be amazing to actually have a game that played out more like the anime than the turn based pokemon we have currently.

Battle choices would still be important, and Relative speed and intensity of the move of the two pokemon should determine how frequently you can use specific attacks.

For instance the speed stat will be used to determine how quickly your GCD (global cooldown ala wow) will refresh.

Special Defense and Attack will also determine how often and quickly you can use those ultimate moves like Hyper Beam and how effective they are.

Have a pokemon with a ton of speed but low special attack? then he is unable to use moves like hyper beam very often but can tackle you to death.

You shouldn't be able to "fly" anywhere with your pokemon, even after you learn the "fly" ability, because it would enable you to just fly quickly to any location, and transport is a crucial element of succesfully recreating the pokemon universe (ASH doesn't just fly everywhere). Trains, Boats even planes should be much more efficient at getting you places than flying with a pokemon or surfing with one, but you can do so for a limited time if you see a "tentacruel" you want to catch in the distance or you need to catch that pidgeot flying overhead.

Legendary pokemon should remain uncatchable for the most part, except after you have achieved certain things in the universe itself, and you can only own one of each legendary (No stacking Mewtwo's o Tyrannitar's or Dragonite's (yes i know they aren't specifically legendary but there stats are still overwhelming).

All this while persistently having near 50,000 people running on each server, would probably be the only MMO that could topple WoW's popularity and create some Serious $$$ for Nintendo.

Actually now that i've been exposed to it, i would really like to try a Pokemon game with a Tales-style battle system. A similar setup, in that you have four moves at any given time that you're actually mapped to use, but can execute the various techniques in real-time, attack, special attack, or pokemon's various support moves

It would be the best way to translate pokemon style fighting into something more real-time.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

When i first saw Pokemon stadium i though it was going to be like Super Smash Brothers, but i was wrong.

Nintendo needs to make it happen.

No. Why would we be? It's fun.

If you want Pokemon with action, go play Monster Hunter. Pokemon is fine as it is.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Be the ultimate ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! Poisson Village welcomes new players.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Yeah the Wii, doesn't have the best online servers I agree, but it could still work look at Mario Kart. Then again, a pokemon MMO calls for more than 12 people online.

Battle choices would still be important, and Relative speed and intensity of the move of the two pokemon should determine how frequently you can use specific attacks.

Yes, I agree with you for the most part. As for the HM 'fly' I believe players should be able to fly to areas that they have been to and not everywhere like you previously metioned, just to get rid of some tiresome backtracking. Trains, boats, planes I love that idea to.

As for legendary's, yes each trainer should only be allowed to 'catch' one, as in there should only be one of each legendary programmed into each game. However, if another trainer decides he wants to trade his legendary to someone else, then that should be allowed.

All this while persistently having near 50,000 people running on each server, would probably be the only MMO that could topple WoW's popularity and create some Serious $$$ for Nintendo.

Yes, this idea has so much potential, in fact, it seems almost like 'duh' this game should be made.

I was being sarcastic. I'm not tired of them either, but are you telling me that if Nintendo made a Pokemon MMO with 10,000 + players per server you would'nt play it?
