9.5 Presentation
A focused storyline, strong characters, clear moral choice mechanics, great story delivery, and a well-implemented overall cohesion of theme throughout the entire product.
9.0 Graphics
Not as impressive as the first game, but the unmistakable art style prevails, making Rapture one of the visually dense and interesting settings around.
9.0 Sound
The effects, music, and voice acting are all top notch and effectively reinforce the mood and feel of the world.
9.0 Gameplay
A host of refinements and tweaks, from hacking to the way weapons and plasmids work, to enhance the flow of gameplay and keep you rooted in the action. A great experience from start to finish.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
A top tier single-player mode that's entertaining the whole way through and a surprisingly fun multiplayer suite with plenty of unlocks and reasons to keep playing.

9.5 Presentation
It may be another go on the same merry-go-round, but the music, the aesthetic, the strangeness and the horror remain ten times more arresting than any other mainstream shooter.
8.5 Graphics
It's not the Unreal 3 engine at its absolute best - characters still tend to be pudding-faced, for instance. The visual style more than makes up for technical shortcomings, though.
8.5 Sound
Excellent music, inevitably, but the voice-acting can be a little too B-movie, while some of the narration becomes grating.
9.0 Gameplay
As a game in which you kill lots of people from a first-person view, its mechanics are more interesting and rewarding than any contempory. In turn, this makes for an unusual but confident multiplayer.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
The story and characterisation feels a little too flat to warrant a second playthrough in search of alternate endings, but replays do mean you'll try out new toys.

Good score, about what i expected...

"characters still tend to be pudding-faced, for instance" LAWL! Now that's funny! IGN UK has some pretty good writers.

OT: Hmm, I was expecting higher scores, looks like it'll be worth another go round with Rapture.

Pretty much what I, and everyone else, have been expecting. Similar to the first game but not as "groundbreaking."

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Oh no...not 10/10 it is an epic FAILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Now back to reality: Good scores!

I think IGN UK is more accurate in their reviews.

Fuck... I'm dead!

Good score. It only got a lower score than the first one because the graphics aren't as eye popping as they were in 2007 and Rapture isn't as mysterious if you played the first one.

I reckon this game will have an overall metaranking slightly below the first game. I've yet to get into Bioshock (still have it in the tin) so once i play through that i'll pick this up some time later. Looking forward to playing through the first Bioshock actually thanks to its high praise, but i won't start until i finish Tales of Vesperia.

How technical is your game?

According to the ads on Gamespot.com it got a 9.5 from Xbox Official Magazine, 5/5 GamePro, 5/5 Playstation official Magazine. So looking good so far.
