Forums - Gaming Discussion - IGN and Gametrailers responses proof of bad things to come?

Meh, doesn't bother me. I have a firm rule about letting anything on the internet get me too wound up. For the record, I love both of those games almost equally, and are probably my #1 and 2 favorite games this gen (ME2 and UC2 that is). Reviewers are still people and commenters at least on IGN are INSANELY obnoxious. It's their site, they can write what they want. The article was actually well written and had some good points, they just used a flamebait title. I think it's fun to watch fanboys get their panties in a bunch, go IGN!

I think sites are losing their market to blog oriented sites like Kotaku, Destructoid and Joystiq. So what the're doing now is trying to mimic those sites by being "edgy" or "highly opinionated." But by doing so they're insulting their customers and that's never the path to success. It will only hasten their demise. What big sites like IGN need to understand is that they ARE NOT BLOG SITES and should act accordingly. What they are, or at least what they tend to be, are journalists. They aren't commentators, talking heads or polemics.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

You really promote flamebait?

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

3 things

1) you just noticed them being like that? =s they're doing it since forever , they compare games that are popular and are not related to each other at all.
2) sites need hits, why should they care about nerds crying scores.
3) who gives a damn, just go make something useful instead caring about them.

Hence the rise of gaming "editorials/flame bait."

Quote for truth....

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

If game sites only focused on one console each, just like the game magazines of the old days like Sega Force and Nintendo Power, we wouldn't have this problenm because fanboyism would be non-existant. Just a thought.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Umm. . . maybe I shouldn't promote it, but I have a lot less problem with it that a lot of people do. I don't expect NYT level journalism on the internet (except I guess on NYT.com ) Everything on the internet has an amaturish feel to it, so who cares? I mean, if I were expecting really thoughtful, well done commentary and I got flamebait, then I might be pissed. But looking at the IGN community a huge portion of it is pretty juvenile and eats this crap up. If it didn't get hits, they wouldn't do it. I think it's a worse reflection on gamers than anything, so I'm not going to jump down a websites throat for getting hits.

I actually like that these big named sites give a more realistic/personal response to people's comments, or whatever the case may be. I feel closer to the editors on a whole rather than just the company (IGN, etc.) I love IGN for keeping a human touch to the response, and editorials. It's always set them apart, and i think that's why they are so big now, they've always been like this, from way back when i first used the site in 2001/2.

Sooo no one understood that IGN was mocking the fanboys?

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Everyone understands that.....thats whats wrong with it.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

In my opinion, the problem lies with the fanboy criticism that led to the response; not the responses themselves. That is, the inmates should not run the asylum, and I don't personally have a problem with the sites handling the malcontents however they see fit.
