Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Good debut weeks for No more heroes 2 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?

TvsC opened well in NA but no where's else. It's well suited to Wii audiences as it's easy to pick up and play but hard to master. The unknown Tatsunoko brand won't help though, but at least they are interesting characters. Hell, the Capcom brand is probably unknown to most Wii owners.

Regardless, I think this game could coast on legs for a long time at the $30 range.

NHM2 I'm troubled with. A sequel should be more front loaded but I'd expect 1.5 to 2x the original's openning numbers. Didn't do nearly that well. It's not my type of game to be honest, my son played the first one but was put off by the empty overworld. Many like him will be hard to win back unless they hear about how much better it is from friends who own the game. It also has more competition than the first one. When NMH's launched Wii was pretty bare of any action titles (aside from PS2 ports). Now there's plenty on the shelves.

I'm sure it'll sell enough to make Grasshopper happy (won't take much) but we'll have to see how it's legs hold out.

Out of curiosity, what action games are you thinking about?

tatsonoku vs capcom sales in Europe was disappointing, i think it has something to do with less shipments, because i was luckily to find 1 game at EB Games today.. why did capcom only ship a dozen to retails? they should know this is a huge title.. if they sent 100k to retails i reckon it would of done atleast 50-60k in europe

TvC did quite nice numbers. NMH2's success will depend on legs from here. If it follows the pattern of the first one it will be a success for sure, but there is no guarantee it will.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I'm dissapointed in gamers. NMH should be a top selling franchise. It's just fantastic.

Just that being self aware fiction of any kind, and being mainstream as well, isn't always easy to pull off.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Did Ubisoft forget to advertise NMH2?

Currently Madworld, FF:CC:CB, TvsC, (upcoming killing legs) Red Steel 2, MH3

TVC was actually advertised. Maybe Ubishit should take notes...

On the bright side for "Ubishit", they don't have to earn back money from advertising.

Even if they did advertise, what could they have expected? 80K opening? Its hard enough to make a profit on the Wii with a M rated core game. You want them to waste more money with advertising?

Final Fantasy on the Wii only sold 40K in NA and that had heavy advertising.

Advertising can only make people aware of your product, it doesn't affect whether or not anyone wants your product.  NMH and NMH2 are niche games, better known for being gorey and violent, and that's a turn-off for a lot of people; and most of the people who would be interested in NMH2, are those who played NMH, and already know about the game.

Actually, I'd say a lot of design decisions were made to make NHM2 more accessible (the "overworld" immediately jumps out).  I mean, sure it's never going to be a platinum blockbuster, but it could definitely do better than the minor cult hit the first one was imo.

In terms of actual game design, I'd say TVC is pretty easily the more niche of the 2 games (2D fighter, "obscure" anime licenses) and it's outperforming it 2 to 1 in America.
