I blame FFXIII not because it is bad game (It's a great game) but because it took FFXIII long enough to be released and 2010 is very bright for JRPG consoles especially for the PS3. EoE/RoF, FFXIII, AT3, SO4, Last Rebellion, ToV maybe?, Atelier Rorona, VersusXIII and WKC 2 in Japan.

I agree

a FF always sets up the console's JRPG fanbase, it bring JRPG players to consoles, acts as a catalyst

this time an FF is coming 4 freakin years into a generation, it definetely IS to blame

if FFXIII was out in 2007, those JRPG's could have sold more as more potential JRPG players would own the console!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

So the highest rated JRPG this gen is the CT remake?

That's pretty funny.

lol , and is not even a remake is a port.

Lost Odyssey is in my top 10 games this gen, almost in my top 5. I think reviewers actually are a bit down on the genre right now.

yeah, I agree with the guy saying the problem is ds

I was in a thread about JRPGs vs WRPGs and stated how JRPGs need to innovate until someone pointed out most of the JRPG market (and innovation in the genre) has moved to handhelds; namely the DS. Most of the games are being released for the DS and will continue to be made for the DS as they can keep the budget small whilst still selling to a massive userbase. It's a win-win situation for them. If you want your AAA JRPGs that's probably where you need to start looking.

On home consoles MS seems to be pushing devs and publishers really hard to release on 360 but most of the time it hasn't worked out well in terms of sales (or indeed critical reception). Hopefully the release of FFXIII will reignite some interest in the genre and we'll see some new and quality titles hitting the home consoles. However, DS will still have the most JRPGs.

chrono trigger is the highest rated jrpg this gen? lol that proves it is still better than anything

@Scoobes- I agree with that statement, there are TONS of great JRPGs on the DS. I would say anyone that is an RPG fan that doesn't have a DS because it's got "bad graphics" or some dumb reason like that is doing themselves a disservice.

Some people really dislike handheld gaming. Others are fine with sitting on their couch playing their DS, I for one would much rather play console games as they don't strain my eyes and hands from the small screen and cramped playing position.
