It seems that it is the  first time in any console cycle, two comparable consoles compete head to head with same price and there are more advantages in favour of PS3 this time around from previous scenarios as of 2007 and 2008:

PS3 has always had a better hardware value over the X360. It's the reason I like my PS3 over my X360. However, the lower price, some better exclusives, better time exclusives, better download content, etc, has driven X360 sales.

When we see some of the long term sales and more of the promised PSN content we can tell if this new price means anything.

Well, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone ...

People have been waiting 3 years for a decent priced ps3. The floodgates are open so it's on surprise the ps3 would be outselling the elite
