Forums - Sales Discussion - Could the PSP's big Holiday games outsell the DS's?

This thread was revived 10/10, I change the original post  and added sales numbers for the two platforms.  Recent comments start on page 6 if you have 10 comments per page. If you like this thread be sure you also check out the similar thread for the consoles.

I was looking at the release schedules for both the DS and the PSP, and I was impressed by the number of big games scheduled to be released on the PSP this year.  So based on those titles is it possible that the big PSP holiday titles will outsell the DS's big holiday titles?  Again this is only for holiday titles (which I'm defining as games that release between October and Decbmer), and not about hardware sales or total software sales.

So what do you think, is it possible that PSP's bigger titles will outsell the DS's bigger titles this Holliday.  To make it more specific, will the PSP's top 5 Holiday titles outsell the DS's top 5 Holiday titles this year? I.e. this thread is about which console's Oct-Dec releases will sell more during Oct1-Dec31.

It depends on how the PSP go does.. the PSP's recent software sales have been much higher , and its doing ok hardware wise.

No. Mario and Zelda will probably outsell each one of those games. If Nintendo was releasing junk, there's a chance, but they really aren't from what I can see.

I guess that depends on your definition of "better".

On the one hand, being barely better than the PS2 is hardly great but on the other hand, almost equaling the PS3 sounds better.

a bunch of big ds titles missing on that list that are releasing between now and the beginning october that will be selling well in decomber and are release in the holidays in europe. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story has a 11/27/09 release date in europe

I'm still split on this possibility. Pokemon, Mario and Sonic, and Zelda obviously are big games, but not near the sales of some of the biggest DS games like main series Pokemon, or New Super Mario Bros. I also think Mario and Sonic might sell less, as the winter games are not as big as the summer Olympics. I also think it is possible that the Pokemon and Zelda games will sell less than their predecessors on the DS just because of being sequels on the same platform. Throw in the fact that I think the PSP games will be more front loaded than the DS games, and in my opinion it could be close this holiday, with it coming down to if big name franchises can sell well on the PSP.
