Forums - Sony - Heavy Rain has unappealing gameplay

The game does look incredible in the graphics, story, and production value departments but the gameplay just doesn't seem all that fun. I know you can walk around and stuff but when it comes to performing an action, the game is all about hitting context sensitive buttons at the right time; isn't that something I can do in the Resident Evil and God of War games? I understand that Sony is trying to deliver a cinematic experience here but you don't need fancy camera angles to do that; just look at Uncharted or Metal Gear Solid: two of the most movie-like games ever. For me, the lack of traditional gameplay, such as shooting, running, etc., is really unappealing and even kills the replay value. People are not gonna go back to a game after beating it just to hit context sensitive buttons. I wish the game would have some basic traditional gameplay, because it's certainly not worth $69.99; I might rent it, but the game seems to lack any sort of fun factor.

You played it...?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

It's not a game for everyone, hell it probably isn't a good game for most people. It's like a point and click adventure type title. If you don't like playing games for story and mystery then it simply isn't for you.

gosh i hate these smart ass comments that people make for no reason; they contribute nothing to the thread at all...i said "it looks this way"...no where in my post did i say i played the game, but from what i saw in the e3 demo it just wasn't appealing! if u have nothing good to say then stfo!

It does look crap.

Try and find Indigo Prophecy in the pre-owned section next time you go to a video game store. If you like that, you will like Heavy Rain.

If every game had 'traditional' gameplay, gaming would get boring quick. I for one would be pissed off if Heavy Rain had Uncharted like gameplay. Indigo Prophecy is one of my favourite PS2 games and I cannot wait for Heavy Rain.

okay , since you hate these smart ass comments. i'll ask you this.

you played Indigo Prophecy?

I'm going to buy it because it's film noir style adventure game...

This will keep my going until the next Tex Murphy game

no, i unfortunately haven't...i just looked it up and i just realized that it's made by the same dev as heavy rain

wow that nerve must be pretty sore...

point I was making is that gameplay videos can often be misleading, you can't truely judge a game unless you have first hand experience.

Examples from personal experience: I thought trash panic would be the shit after the videos, turned out to be just shit.

I thought Uncharted would not be up my alley but after playing it, it's welcomed in my alley any day.

So you see ladies and gentlemen, don't dismiss things unless you get true first hand experience, not saying you'll love Heavy Rain but the least you can do is give it a fighting chance.
