Here's the top amount of consoles/handhelds sold between each company (Wikipedia numbers)

Nintendo

Nintendo has currently shipped more then 516 million console and handhelds world wide.

Sony

Sony has currently shipped more then 314 million consoles and handhelds world wide.

Sega

Sega has shipped in between 80.1 - 87.6 million consoles and handhelds. The reason for the two different numbers for the Saturn is because there was two different sources saying two different amounts, VG Chartz has the Saturn at 8.82 million so I'd say the 9.5 million is the better number then 17 million.

Microsoft

Microsoft has currently shipped over 52 million consoles world wide.

Atari

Now obviously there are other consoles like the 5200 and the 7800 but I could not find any toal numbers for them, so for now the Atari is incomplete.

I'm going to stop here, there are other companies but the number's are very different for alot of websites so it wouldn't be very accurate. Anyway there you have it, it took Nintendo 25 years to sell a whopping half a billion consoles and handhelds, how high can that number go, possibly a billion? Coming up the rear with an impressive 314 million consoles and handhelds sold in just 15 years is Sony, once again it'll be interesting to see how high this number will go. Next comes Sega selling roughly 80 - 87 million, hopefully some day we'll see Sega jump into the console wars once again. After Sega is the new comer Microsoft selling a very respectable 52 million consoles, no handhelds yet.

I can't say much about Atari it's to bad I couldn't find the numbers for the 5200 and 7800. I know that the 5200 bombed bad and the 7800 didn't do to well at all. By the time the 7800 was cancelled the NES owned 80% of the North America market and Atari only had 12%, so the other consoles couldn't have sold well.

N64 only 33 million? Somehow I pictured in my head it was over 50 million.

Playstation really crushed Nintendo.

And btw, didnt the PS1 sell more than 102.5 million also?

VG Chartz even has N64 at 32.93 million so that's right

And no the PS1 just barely cracked the 100 million mark, it sold 102.49 million, again VG Chartz agrees.

By the end of this gen i expect near to 1billion overall sales.

No way the Saturn sold 17 million, it wouldn't have been deemed such a big failure if it had.

Also the Virtual Boy is missing (like 500K?)

And there is a kind of handheld by Sony that was released in Japan, I can't remember what it was called but it was kind of like a tamagotchi that also worked as a PS1 memory card.... it sold somewhere between 3 and 5 million I think.

Technically it's already well over a billion, I'm missing quite a few consoles, but there just wasn't enough info about there sales.

And yes there was another Sony handheld called the PocketStation but I couldn't find any reliable sources for LTD numbers, where did you get the 3 - 5 million figure? I found one webiste that says it sold 4.9 million but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

It didn't seem to sell any software though, I think it was more for cross compatibility with Final Fantasy or something.

DS/lite/i probably will outsell the PS2.

If it stayed as just the DS though, i highly doubt it would.
