Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rant about a popular game thread.

I decided to create this thread as an outlet for everyone to give their rants and dislikes about popular games that sold really well or has been reviewed extremely well (reviews of 8+)

If there is a game that everyone and their mother thinks is amazing but you really REALLY hated it, this is where I'd like you to post which game and the logical reasons why. Don't say the game sucks cause it sucks...as that doesn't tell us anything about your gaming tastes. Provide reasons...

DO NOT POST AND TRY TO DEFEND YOUR FAVOURITE GAME IF SOMEONE IS SAYING IT SUCKS. I KNOW IT’S HARD BUT PLEASE RESIST THE URGE!

I want people to be free to reasonably explain why they didn't like a game without being attacked by the Sony Defense Force...etc...

I'll get the ball rolling.

Zelda:Twighlight Princess.

I remember reading the reviews and IGN saying it is "best launch title since Mario 64" (soul calibur, halo anyone) so when I got my hands on a wii in February this was the only game I purchased.

To keep my rant short...

- Graphics sucked. The game looks worse than some first gen gamecube titles like Starfox Adventures. I bought this Wii as the next level of gaming and what I got looked worse than most of my PS2 titles.

- The music, dialogue, facial acting and game direction are corny beyond belief. For the first 30 minutes I was treated to some of the corniest and worst text I've seen in a game that wasn't Resident Evil (which is good like that). The lame facial expressions and people yelling "HEYYYY!" like retards did not help.

- Gameplay (apart from some cool boss fights) was not new at all. Even with the new Wii mote it felt dated to me, especially the camera movement. Basically to me this was the same game as Ocarina of Time, Majoras mask (minus the time limit) and Windwaker...but it let you play as a wolf.

- As good as Wii mote was with Wii sports, this is when I discovered it's going to suck for some games.  I would have paid any money to have a gamecube controller available in this game. Should have bought the gamecube version I guess...

As a result of this, this is the first Zelda since the 16 bit generation that I did not finish...not even close actually.

This  is when I began to realize me and Nintendo are going to have issues this generation.

Final Fantasy 7

- Graphics. It's the second ugliest game i've ever seen and only the second game who's graphics were so crappy it hurt the play expierence. That other game Ballz 3-d or something... which was some bad fighter for one of the sega systems... with well bad graphics... and worse gameplay.

- Story. Made no sense... had bad pacing... was boring... you never care about the characters

-Characters. They are just so flat... and also don't seem to have any development

- FF 4-6. All of them were a lot better. FF4 and 6 had better storys and gameplay, 5 had the best gameplay, though it's story was of NES level quality... which may actually be better then FF7 since 5 didn't make you sit through so much crap you didn't care about.

Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask

-Ocarina of Time. It was just Ocarina of time again... and i only kinda liked Ocarina of time.

- The Moon. It's annoying and repeittive to have to send the moon back and retrack whenever you feel like exploring or goofing off.

Oh wait nvm. I didn't understand at first. All right I will think of a game that is popular that I disliked.

Halo 3, the game was ok, but in no way AAA.
GRAPHICS, The games graphics are in no way impressive for a 360 game. Since at the time I was playing alot of retro games, ,and didn't really care since it looked nice compared to them. Now It just seems disappointing that one of or the biggest game to come out on the 360 has these graphics.

STORY, The story had so much potential to be good, but it was just meh. I know it's an fps ,but the story wasn't good at all. It was very predictable, such as the point where you find cortana. The ending was really disappointing. I prefer the story of the original, and to a lesser extent halo 2.

MUSIC, The music was ok, but nothing wonderful. I don't really have anything more to say here.

GAMEPLAY, I hate dual analog controls for a fps. I bought both halo 1 and 2 for pc, and never played them with dual analog so I didn't know what I was getting into. Surprisingly it wasn't as bad as some newer games I have played with dual analog, but it still was worse compared to the previous games. Now I found the gameplay really repetitive. You get ambushed kill all of the enemies, move on. GO in a vehicle kill enemies move on. Get ambushed again. Join up in groups, and then kill some more enemies. It was extremely dull to me.

ONLINE, The online is great, but other than extra weapons maps( Which I believe you could get mods for in the pc version of halo 2) and vehicles It wasn't much different from halo 2s online. Seeing as I had to pay for the online after my 1 month was over I didn't feel it was worth it. I got a better online experience imo from games such as CoD 4, Unreal Tournament 3, and Team Fortress.

Local Multiplayer, This is the only thing that I feel is worth buying the game for, besides online if you don't have a gaming pc capable of halo 2. I got to play with my friends splitscreen ( which I can't really do with my pc) and It's addicting. There are many ways to play multiplayer, and almost all of them are fun. I can't count how many hours I spent with my friends at parties, or just hangouts playing halo 3.

The game was ok , but imo didn't deserve any of the reviews or sales it got. It lived off hype and online/local multiplayer for some.

I can't stand Gears of War...don't like it at all.

Also not a big CoD4 fan...just a generic FPS to me.

Top 3 favorite games: Super Mario Galaxy, The Sims 2 (PC), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Anything Mario. Hop on Goomba's, Princess isn't here, ride on Yoshi, beat Bowser.

Same formula for over 20 years, yet it always gets rave reviews, and is always the reason to pick up a Nintendo console.

Don't confuse this with being "evolutionary" vs. "revolutionary". No. It's the exact same formula EVERY GAME.

Well this is working rather nicely... While I obviously disagree on some games, I actually understand why you didn't like them.

hehe...bump. I want to read more rants... :)

Grand Theft Auto 4:

1) Didn't innovate the series, genre or games in general. Sure it's one big "complete" package, but any game developer can do that (if they put the effort), what a GOOD developer does is innovate.

2) Only 4 Multiplayer modes I would consider not broken and of them probably 2 or 3 are actually fun.

3) This game lacks polish big time. Graphical hiccups, random freezes and some downright ugly environments at times make this not a 10/10 game.

4) Basically took all the things that make games popular these days and meshed them into one game (driving style, cover system, multiplayer modes).

5) Multiplayer is crazy unbalanced. Find Rocket Launcher = Win or at least a killing spree of AT LEAST 6 people (if you can't get that many kills with it, you're not very good...). Auto aim: Person who's gun has the better statistics when the game makes it's calculations in the background = WINNER.

I like this thread :) there's a few more games that i'll add later.

CoD4. It's very scripted and so boring. You have no freedom and the endless amount of baddies and 'nades is just laughable.
