What are we thinking? With recent news of a French retailer having listed a NS2 Edition for GTA VI, and a Nintendo Direct inbound, perhaps now may be a good time to ask whether it’s coming. For all we know, Rockstar has plans to unveil a Switch 2 Edition in the upcoming Direct (though I have my doubts).

Hmm. I’m thinking it’ll eventually land on Switch 2, though I have my doubts about a same day launch as PS5/XBS especially with pre-orders already having gone out.

That said, I’m predicting probably not until well after the PC release. It’ll likely require a lot of man power to get a sufficient port up-and-running on Switch 2. Granted RDR2 and GTAV never ended up on Switch 1 nor Switch 2, I’m thinking Rockstar may have a change of heart seeing how strong AAA third-party support has been on Switch 2 and how limited the market is becoming for these high-end (i.e. PC, PS6, PS5, XBSXS) systems.

It looks like a game that is CPU limited on the PS5/XBS. Ram/GPU wise switch 2 should be fine but the Switch 2 CPU is so weak comparitively.

If PS5 CPU is only good enough for 30fps the game would require a massive amount of work to the underlying simulation to get it running at 30fps on Switch 2.

Optimising a game to run on a weaker gpu is a lot easier than getting it to run on a weaker CPU.

So unless GTA VI isn't pushing the PS5/XBS CPU as hard as generally believed it would be a very big undertaking and rockstar aren't exactly known for being a studio that offers universal platform support for their games. If they don't wanna port they don't.

Personally I don't think it'll ever come to Switch 2.

It would almost have to, seeing as how poor Rockstar/Take Two are going to be struggling to make much money on this game. :(

Let's put it that way, it's just as technically likely as seeing an unlocked mode that runs at 70-80 fps in the base PS5/Xbox.

You are right to have doubts.
This is like a 1% chance of happening..... I'm thinking like 1/1000 or something.

So go find a bag of dice, see if you can roll a 6 sided one, like 5 times in a row, with it landing on a 6 each time.
If you do happen to manage that, congrats!

Also there are rumors of like 200-300gb sizes for it.
Imagine selling a game so big, it cannot be installed on a Switch 2, without people having bought additional storage for it.

GTA V did not come to the original Switch, when it could have played an improved Ps360 version with relatively little issue. It has a +150m userbase, yet it did not come to the Switch. Why would GTA VI, a game that is going to struggle on the PS5/XS, be ported to the Switch 2?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It's going to struggle by modern performance expectations on PS5 and Series X. I don't see the logic in a Switch 2 version, as it would likely perform rougher than Series S.
Rockstar has had a long time to put GTA V on Switch and hasn't even announced it for Switch 2, and it might not ever come.
I just don't see it. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 still have more than a slight chance to come to Switch 2. But GTA VI? Slight to say the least.
